The leaves of meadow cornflower are alternate, lanceolate or elliptical-lanceolate. In addition, the leaves are either whole or pinnate, and also pointed and rough from short and stiff hairs, in addition, the leaves can be almost naked, they cover the stems right up to the baskets. The lower leaves are on winged petioles, the middle and upper leaves will be sessile, mostly narrowed.

The flowers of meadow cornflower are painted in lilac-pink tones, sometimes the flowers are white, they are in inflorescences, which are baskets. Such inflorescences are located one or two at the very end of the stem and its branches. The width of the wrappers will be about ten to fifteen millimeters. The appendages of the meadow cornflower leaves are colored in light brown tones and are also filmy. The fruits of the plant are elongated-ovoid achenes, which will have a rudimentary mound.

The flowering of this plant occurs in the summer and autumn periods. Under natural conditions, this plant is found on the territory of Ukraine, Belarus, in the Crimea and on the territory of the European part of Russia, as well as in the Caucasus and Altai. This plant grows like a weed among the crops of rye and many other crops. It is noteworthy that this plant is often bred as an ornamental crop.

Description of the medicinal properties of meadow cornflower

For medicinal purposes, the roots of the plant are most often used, as well as its grass. The grass should include both the stems and the leaves and the flowers of the plant themselves. As for the grass and flower baskets, they should be harvested around June-August, but the roots of the plant are harvested in the autumn period.

Both tannins and centaurin have been found in the grass. It was found that meadow cornflower is capable of providing analgesic, choleretic and anti-inflammatory effects. As for the water infusion made from the herb of meadow cornflower, it is used in case of delayed menstruation, as well as for jaundice and dropsy.

In case of rickets, it is recommended to use cornflower grass baths. Fresh plants should be used as a poultice to be applied to sore parts of the body for aches, as well as for stretching both tendons and muscles. To eliminate swelling, you should use powdered dry leaves, which should be sprinkled on the swollen areas. A decoction made from meadow cornflower inflorescences should be taken for various heart diseases, as well as for headaches, stomach pains and diseases of the uterus. For rheumatism, inflorescence decoction is recommended for baths. As for children, they can be bathed in such a decoction for eczema or diathesis.

In the case of angina pectoris, it is recommended to take an infusion of meadow cornflower about one tablespoon three to four times a day, fifteen to twenty minutes before the start of a meal. To prepare such an infusion, you will need to take a little more than a teaspoon of dry herb of this plant for one glass of boiling water, then the resulting mixture should be instructed for two hours, and then the mixture is filtered.
