Having eaten plenty of wonderful walnuts, we hurry to throw the shells into the trash bin without any shade of regret, sighing sadly that they account for almost half of the total walnut harvest. But these shells can be very useful, not only in folk medicine, but also in cosmetology, and even in the household! How can we use them, and how can they help us?
Healing properties
Water broth, as well as the vodka infusion prepared from the shells left over from walnuts, are widely used both for thrombosis and for a number of other ailments of the vascular system. They will also serve you well with hypertension. Alcohol tincture is also useful - it is used for varicose veins in the form of compresses!
The shells of walnuts also help to cope with inflammatory female ailments - they are boiled in a saucepan with water until it acquires a rich brown color. As a rule, it takes no more than a quarter of an hour to prepare such a decoction. It is especially important to select for these purposes clean pieces of shells that are completely free of traces of mold or mildew. As for the proportions, 40 g of shells are usually taken for each glass of water. Before use, the finished broth must be cooled, filtered and prudently diluted with boiled water.
And if you cook a decoction in milk, as Kalmyks often do, it will become an excellent sedative that will not only help you fall asleep faster in case of insomnia, but will also help strengthen your strength after a prolonged illness or heavy physical exertion.
An indispensable decoction from the shells and with a number of dental problems. It will be especially beneficial for those with sensitive teeth or gums! Moreover, the tannins contained in the shells are endowed with the ability to gently and delicately dry the mucous membranes along with the painful foci of irritation or inflammation located on them, which in turn will become a real find with periodontitis or for those who are unlucky enough to face stomatitis. Also, such a decoction helps to quickly calm the tissues and speed up their healing process, both after an extremely unpleasant tooth extraction procedure and during prosthetics. But that's not all: the "magic" shell helps to soften and eliminate plaque, clean tooth enamel from unsightly fossilized layers, restore teeth that have lost their healthy appearance and radiant whiteness, and significantly reduce the risk of new tartar layers forming. For this purpose, a freshly prepared decoction is used - a toothbrush is dipped into it literally for ten minutes before starting to brush your teeth. And since only regular use of the decoction helps to achieve the best results, it is recommended to treat the teeth with such a decoction up to three times a day.
Cosmetological use
The shells left over from walnuts are often used in crushed form as an essential component of homemade masks, as well as peels or scrubs. They perfectly cleanse the surface of the skin from dead particles, help to quickly and effectively soften the keratinized areas, and also to a large extent contribute to the polishing of the surface layer of the dermis, significantly improving its regeneration processes and gently eliminating the effects of former acne, unsightly scar marks and other skin imperfections. And crushed shells have an excellent massage effect on the skin, which helps to activate nutrition and accelerate blood circulation to tissues!
To prepare a wonderful homemade body scrub, just mix the crushed shells with honey - this scrub will be especially useful after the sauna, since the skin is perfectly steamed at this moment, and its pores are perfectly open. And if you combine finely ground shells with wax, you can easily cleanse the skin from both the dead layer of the epidermis and from unwanted vegetation that is no less troublesome.
If suddenly there is a need to cope with baldness, the shells need to be burned - subsequently, the resulting ash is combined with burdock or vegetable oil. It is not forbidden to add to this "ointment" and a few drops of apple cider vinegar or wine (the prepared composition is then systematically applied to the scalp).
Dacha economy
In villages and towns, practical residents often use the valuable shell for both heating and mulch. It is perfectly acceptable to add ground shells to compost heaps. And when growing seedlings, pre-prepared shells will be an excellent substitute for expanded clay - the drainage layer from it is also excellent!
