Each of us buys furniture for a long time. But no one is immune from unintentional damage. Often, before a stain from wine, juice, coffee appears, we get lost and upset. It is also known that upholstered furniture collects dust, quickly becomes dirty at active points, glossy abrasions and dark spots appear on the fabric of the armrests and the edges of the upholstery. Let's talk about how you can independently eliminate such defects at home

Individual approach to upholstery materials

Before carrying out restoration measures, it is necessary to take into account the properties of the furniture coating. Velor, flock, chenille quickly absorb and pass moisture inside. Therefore, it is recommended to clean such upholstery with a cool soap foam from alkaline soap (household), use water solutions carefully. All movements are carried out along the pile.

Tapestry and jacquard can only be dry cleaned, only if urgently needed is it allowed to use a neutral detergent. Velor has a delicate surface, so it is not worth vacuuming it, but it is better to use a dry brush for soft surfaces.

Errors on artificial suede can be eliminated only with soapy water. After drying with a napkin, they are combed out with a rubber brush, until the original volume is returned to the pile. The skin is cleaned with a dry cloth and special creams. Soap solution and alcohol-containing liquids can be applied to leatherette, but in minimal proportions.

Cleaning the sofa from dust pollution

Dust settles on furniture every day. Over time, it moves from the surface into the interior of the upholstery, penetrates into the inner cushioning layers and compresses. When combined with grease from the hands, sweat and dirt, unpleasant odors arise, and the material is destroyed. There are several ways to deal with dust.

Wet sheet

This method was used by our ancestors, and is successfully used today. Damp cloth and mechanical action allow you to remove dust, both from the surface and from the depth of the product.

To work, you need a carpet beater, an old sheet or a piece of natural fiber fabric. The moistened material is squeezed out and distributed on the surface of the area to be cleaned. As the knocking out and the appearance of traces of dirt, we stretch the fabric and repeat it many times until it is completely cleaned.

Vacuum cleaner

Using different attachments, we follow the usual steps as when cleaning carpets. For narrow spaces, corners and bends, a special nozzle is used. The vacuum cleaner turns on at maximum power so that the upholstery does not get pulled into the pipe, open the air valve.

If the sofa model includes the detaching of the back and armrests, this will help to improve the quality of cleaning, do not forget to vacuum the inner bedding compartment. It is recommended to use a steam cleaner after dry cleaning.

Contamination can be removed with household chemicals, for example, "Vanish". It is diluted in proportions 1: 9, you can make it more concentrated. Foam is whipped with a sponge, applied with a soft brush or sponge to the surface of the upholstery. Vacuum after two hours.

Ways to clean household stains

Ink, marker can be removed well with alcohol, vodka, nail polish remover. Wet a cotton pad and wipe the stained area. Perform movements from the edge to the center of the spot. Change discs until the dye disappears completely. Tea, beer, coffee should be removed with soap, preferably household soap. Moisten the desired area, lather, wipe and let sit for 10 minutes. Rinse off with a wet sponge. Wipe with a dry cloth.

Blood can only be removed fresh, old stains are practically impossible to remove. The place, stained with blood, is washed with lukewarm water. You can add vinegar (1 tsp for a half-liter container).

The trail of spilled juice, red wine should be blotted with a paper towel or napkin. Pour a thick layer of salt (1 cm) on this place, leave for a quarter of an hour. Clean the salt with a brush, moisten the area with alcohol, wipe dry with a cloth.

Oily stains are removed in the same way as described above. Only at the end is the dishwashing detergent applied. Residual streaks are wiped off with a damp cloth.

Chewing gum will only peel off when it is firm. Take ice or a piece of frozen food from the freezer, place it in place with the gum and wait until it completely hardens. Separate the hardened gum in stages with the blunt side of a knife, starting from the edges. If there is still a coating, then iron this place with an iron through the paper. The gum will stick to the hot sheet and the upholstery surface will be completely clean.

Stains from paws of animals, food, shiny places are cleaned with a liquid prepared from shampoo and ammonia (1 tsp, 10 drops, a glass of water). Lather with a solution, leave to act for 5-7 minutes. Remove residues with warm water by blotting with a sponge cloth. Dry naturally.
