In noble estates, a pond was often equipped. Fish, waterfowl, swans were launched into it. This is a place of rest, peace and tranquility. Owners of summer cottages and country houses can easily equip a small reservoir on their site. The pond serves as a natural air humidifier, a beautiful design element for the backyard area. It may well become a favorite place for adults to relax and play with children. It is pleasant to walk near it, breathe fresh, cool air

What is needed to create an artificial reservoir?

- Capacity for water. A plastic round bowl, basin, baby bath will do. You can take an old cast iron or enamel bath. But it must be borne in mind that the use of a large-sized tank will significantly complicate the installation and cleaning of the pond. For a mini-reservoir, choose a container with a diameter of 70–150 cm and a depth of 30–50 cm. It is desirable that the edges are even. The color of the water tank can be any color, but blue or light blue will make the water visually clearer and more transparent.

- Stones. You will need smooth stones of different sizes for decoration and laying around the edges of the pond. They can be collected on the banks of a river or sea. If this is not possible, then they can be bought in large construction hypermarkets. For a pond with a diameter of 1 meter, you need about 12 kg of small pebbles and 40-50 pieces of polished boulders. The stones must be clean.

- Water. We use regular tap water. If you are going to keep fish in the pond in the warm season, then use filtered, purified water.

Building a pond

To begin with, in the selected place, we dig a hole with a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the container. Place the bowl in the created indentation. The edges of the container should rise 2–4 cm above the soil so that the earth does not fall inside during rain. Fill the free space between the reservoir and the depression with earth tightly. We put large and medium stones along the edges of the newly formed pond. They should be on the edge of the bowl. We press them well. Pour 4–5 cm of small pebbles at the bottom. We scatter it along the shore of the pond. This will give it a natural look. Pour water into the container almost to the brim.

The next stage is landscaping the banks of the pond. Low-growing perennial plants will do. These are fern, koala, chastuha, hosta, iris, arrowhead. If you wish, you can put decorative lotus flowers into the water. We cover the reservoir with a film so that the earth does not fall into it. We plant flowers around and then remove the film. The mini pond is ready!

Pond care

When the water becomes cloudy, debris will float on the surface, the pond needs to be cleaned. Scoop out dirty water, wash the walls of the basin and pebbles from the bottom. Pour in clean water. This procedure must be done once a month.

Tips

- An artificial reservoir is located in the open air, trees and shrubs should not grow nearby. Leaves and dust from them will fall into the pond and pollute it.

- If there is a place on the site where moisture always accumulates, then it is ideal for a reservoir.

- The sun should not warm up the pond around the clock. The best option is an illumination of 8 hours.

- It is better not to use metal containers as a water reservoir. They rust and spoil the water.

- Water evaporates quickly in summer and needs to be refilled periodically.

Ideas

- To create a pond, rubber tires and a dense film are used. A cracked basin will do. The previously dug hole is covered with a film and its edges are covered with earth.

- Flood plants are planted in the mini-pond. The depth of the pond must be at least 50 cm. Clay and sand are poured at the bottom.

- The pond and the area around it are decorated with decorations: lotus flowers, water lilies, frogs, various sea figures.
