Surely every fan of indoor floriculture will be happy to receive a pot with a blooming room rose as a gift. On New Year's Eve, these plants are especially popular in flower shops. They are full of their shiny packaging and gorgeous blossoming flowers peeping out of it and still tight buds. But the trouble is, how often it happens that once in our homes, the flowers begin to fade, and the leaves - to dry. How can we help this room beauty and protect her from death?
Behind the shiny packaging
First of all, you need to understand what is happening behind this shiny package with a plant rooted in a pot. Such a film is a double-edged sword. First of all, it plays a protective role, but to a large extent it is responsible for the special microclimate in which the roses for sale are kept. Here they maintain a certain humidity, and when we deprive the pot of this barrier, the flower gets into completely different conditions. As a rule, in the winter period, there is an increased dryness of the air in the apartments. And roses are very sensitive to such changes, and therefore it negatively affects their appearance.
However, there is another side to the coin of keeping a rose in such a shelter. With increased humidity closer to the soil surface, favorable conditions are created for the development of a fungal infection. And the beautiful top of the plant, which looks out of the package and is well ventilated with air, may not reflect the true state of the flower at all. Therefore, when unpacking, it is necessary to immediately inspect the root zone and cut off all dry, discolored, mealy leaves from the stems.
Transplanting bushes into a fresh substrate
The secret of lush potted rose bushes often lies in the fact that several cuttings are planted in one container at once. And of course, the content on the principle of "in cramped, but not offended" does not suit the colors. To extend the life of the plants, they will have to be transplanted into separate pots. Magnificent flowering will not last long, and the opening of tight buds can not wait long. Therefore, without regret, flowers and buds are cut from a bush, and then sent to admire them in a vase.
Bushes that are significantly thinned and shortened by about half can be immediately transplanted into a fresh nutrient substrate. Having pulled out the earthen lump from the pot, you should first immerse it in a bowl of water in order to separate the plants woven by the roots more easily and without severe damage. If the flower was sold in a peat mixture, this can be done easily.
Two or three handfuls of expanded clay are placed at the bottom of the pot for drainage. Then a layer of nutritious, moderately loose, soil mixture is lined. Holding the cut rose seedling with one hand, they cover it with earth around it two-thirds of the height of the pot with the other. Now you should water the plant abundantly. It will be very beneficial to add a fungicide to the water to heal weakened roses. After that, the pot is completely filled with dry substrate. This will prevent a crust from appearing on the surface.
Transplanted roses are not left near windows. In the middle of winter, as a rule, the sun shines brightly, and this will harm our plants. Therefore, they should at least be shaded.
It would be a double mistake to place the pots on the windowsills, under which the heating radiators are installed. In winter, the air is already dry enough, and vice versa, care must be taken to ensure that the leaves are not dehydrated. In this regard, caring for transplanted flowers should include spraying the leaves remaining on the stems. In the first week, you can also pour not pure water into a spray bottle, but a solution of a fungicide.
