Say a word for dandelion

I don't know why a cute yellow dandelion so annoyed one of my friends, but she declared war on him in earnest and chases him around her decent-sized summer cottage with a pipette in her hands. The pipette is loaded with some kind of chemical that she sprinkles under every dandelion root that comes her way. Apparently, she does not know one magical property of dandelion, which I learned about too late

Medicine

Probably everyone knows about the medicinal properties of dandelion. But it is not enough just to know, you need to use a plant growing under your feet, which is mercilessly trampled, removed, ridding your square meters of its presence. And when the liver reminds of itself, appetite disappears, they go to the pharmacy and buy medicines, leaving a tidy sum there.

To strengthen and heal the liver, you just have to dig out the roots of the dandelion in the fall, which contain an organic substance called inulin. Inulin is a dietary fiber that is not digested by the enzymes of the human body, and therefore is used as a substitute for starch and sugar in diabetes mellitus.

Cooking use

It will not be news to you that jam is made from dandelion flowers, honey is made (bees also actively process dandelion pantries into thick and fragrant honey) and even wine. I myself, however, do not like flower jam. Not dandelions or rose petals. Yes, and berry jam in recent years has not been in demand in the family, so I switched to freezing berries.

Salads are prepared from young leaves and added to borscht. Toasted dandelion roots can replace coffee.

The most interesting

Apparently, not many people know about this ability of the dandelion. Otherwise, they would not strive so vehemently to get rid of him.

If you plant a dandelion in a greenhouse where tomatoes grow, then you will wait for ruddy ripe fruits much earlier than your neighbors across the road. The fact is that our annoying guest releases a fairly large amount of ethylene. This colorless gas is a phytohormone that accelerates the ripening of not only tomatoes, but also other vegetables and fruits.

In industrial greenhouses, where they are interested in the rapid ripening of vegetables, plants are specially treated with ethephon, the use of which has been criticized. In Europe and America, in search of a replacement for ethephone, experiments were carried out with ethylene. Of course, the gas was supplied at a certain temperature, humidity, that is, a whole range of different indicators was maintained. The experiment ended in success. All ripening fruits ripened in a week.

So, it is not for nothing that nature has so generously sowed dandelions in the land in areas with a short summer. And we again go against nature and wait a long time for our tomatoes to ripen right in the garden, and not in the darkness of the premises, plucked green (although this also has its own plus - the duration of the use of fresh tomatoes).

Dandelion will speed up the ripening of not only tomatoes, but also other vegetables. It will also have a beneficial effect on the ripening of apples.

Short summary

Do not rush to rid your summer cottage square meters of so-called weeds. Nature is much older and wiser than you. The saying, who was born where, came in handy not only about people, but also about the whole living world. Plants are friends with each other for a reason, they help each other grow in order to decorate our world with their presence.

Dandelion is not the only hero. Many aromatic herbs planted along the edge of the garden will help vegetables grow faster, juicier, and sweeter. Among them are such simple and well-known ones - chamomile, borage (borage), parsley, thyme, dill and many others. Take a look around and see your real helpers for yourself.
