Eremurus (lat. Eremurus) - a flowering plant, which is one of the brightest representatives of the numerous Liliaceae family.
Description
Eremurus is a herbaceous rhizome perennial with a height of thirty centimeters to one meter seventy centimeters. Its broadly or narrowly linear leaves, the length of which reaches forty centimeters, gather in rather lush basal rosettes, while the leaves forming the outer parts of these rosettes will always be shorter and wider than the inner leaves.
Eremurus stalks are crowned with spectacular apical inflorescences that look like brushes either conical or cylindrical. The inflorescences of this plant can be both dense and loose, their length often reaches eighty centimeters, and the diameter of such inflorescences can vary from eight to fifteen centimeters. Each inflorescence includes from four to seven hundred wide open flowers, the diameter of which reaches from two to three and a half centimeters. As for the color of these flowers, it can be pink, pale pink, white or golden yellow (as a rule, the color is determined by the variety and species).
Where grows
Under natural conditions, eremurus can be found in Central Asian territory, as well as in Southeast Europe, up to the Himalayas and Altai. As for Olga's Eremurus, its homeland is the mountains of Afghanistan and Central Asia, and both Afghanistan and Northern Iran, as well as the southern part of Central Asia, are considered to be the homeland of the narrow-leaved Eremurus.
Usage
Eremurus is very widely used in floristry - it looks great in original interior compositions and in men's bouquets. The attractive bright color of this plant invariably creates an uplifting mood! And for large ceremonial arrangements (especially vertical!) Eremurus will generally be an ideal option. It is also suitable for compositions made in decorative and linear styles. Eremurus is endowed with a truly unique ability to significantly enhance the effect produced by any composition, making it much more presentable and much more powerful!
No less often, Eremurus is also used for planting in flower beds, in addition, it looks great in the background in mixborders. In the cut, this handsome man can last from five to ten days, and before being placed in water, it must be cut at an acute angle.
When working with Eremurus, it is important not to forget about the main feature of its flowering: the inflorescences of this amazing plant always bloom from the bottom up!
Growing and caring
Eremurus feels great in well-lit and properly heated areas. It also tolerates light shading quite well. But he absolutely cannot stand too high standing groundwater. For soils, rich and well-drained soils, which are alkaline or neutral, are most suitable for growing Eremurus.
During the period of active growth and at the flowering stage, the eremurus should be watered abundantly, but during its fruiting, watering should be moderate.
For the winter, the plant is covered with a small layer of shavings, straw or spruce branches. As for fertilizers, superphosphate is usually introduced into the soil before winter, and with the onset of spring, Eremurus should be pampered with good complex fertilizers.
Reproduction of this plant occurs by Kornedonians or by seeds - the latter are usually sown in boxes in September or October.
Sometimes eremurus is also attacked by various ailments and pests - it can be attacked by rust or various viral ailments, as well as moles with mice.
