Scalloped oak is one of the plants of the family called beech, in Latin the name of this plant will sound as follows: Quercus dentata Thunb. As for the name of the toothed oak family itself, then in Latin it will be like this: Fagaceae Dumort.

Description of scalloped oak

The toothed oak is a tree, the height of which will range from fifteen to twenty meters, and the diameter will be approximately eighty centimeters. Most often, the height of the tree will be equal to six to eight meters, and the diameter will be equal to thirty to forty centimeters. The bark is dark gray, thick and cracking.

Young shoots of this plant are densely shaggy, while pubescence will disappear only in the second year. Almost toothed oak is large, their length is up to one centimeter, they are densely pubescent. The leaves will be large, their length is ten to twenty centimeters, and the width is about ten to twelve centimeters. In coppice shoots, the length of the leaves can reach fifty centimeters, and the width will be equal to twenty to thirty centimeters. Above, the leaves are dark green in color, while below they are endowed with dense reddish pubescence, consisting of stellate hairs. The lobes of the leaves will be short and wide, the cupula is endowed with long, loose, narrow-lanceolate scales, which are folded back. The hemispherical acorns are about two centimeters long.

Under natural conditions, the toothed oak is found in the Far East: in the south of Primorye, Kunashir Island, in the Southern Kuriles and in the south of Primorye. In terms of general distribution, this plant is found in Korea and Japan. The plant will grow in small groves among oak forests, and can also form groves near the sea coast or on dry slopes.

It is noteworthy that the toothed oak is a very decorative plant. It is cultivated in Batumi and Sukhumi. This species will be quite rare, and its reserves are small. The plant is protected, and it is also planned to develop new methods for its reproduction.

Description of the medicinal properties of toothed oak

Toothed oak is endowed with very valuable medicinal properties, while it is recommended to use the leaves, acorns and bark of this plant for medicinal purposes. In traditional medicine, bark, leaves and acorns are used as astringents.

The wood of this plant is used in shipbuilding, joinery and plywood production. However, due to insignificant reserves, the plant is not endowed with industrial value.

With diarrhea, frequent urge to urinate, with hemorrhoidal bleeding, gastric ulcer and chronic enterocolitis, it is recommended to use the following remedy: to prepare it, you need to take ten grams of chopped toothed oak bark in one glass of boiling water. The resulting mixture should be infused for two hours. Take the remedy two tablespoons three to four times a day.

For rinsing the mouth with stomatitis, laryngitis, gingivitis, and besides this, it is also recommended to use the following tool for lotions and washing wounds: for its preparation, take one tablespoon of the crushed bark of this plant per one glass of boiling water. The resulting mixture should be infused for three to four hours, and then this mixture is thoroughly filtered.

With frequent urination, diarrhea and enterocolitis, it is recommended to use the following remedy: for its preparation, take one tablespoon of crushed oak toothed leaves in one glass of boiling water, and then insist and filter. Such a remedy is taken one or two tablespoons per day.
