To protect wood from the destructive effect of insects and fungi, special protective equipment is created. Unfortunately, such funds are sometimes dangerous for the person himself. More gentle are varnishes and paints that protect wood from the damaging effects of moisture and sunlight
For such wooden products, as, for example, garden furniture, there are protective paints and varnishes that do not pose a threat to human health, since they do not contain harmful biologically active substances. But to ensure the durability of wooden racks, wood used for the exterior cladding of a building, it is impossible to do without biologically active substances in protective equipment. When using preservatives for wood, which is used for interior decoration, it is preferable to use products labeled "Environmentally friendly product".
Varnishes and azure
To protect such wooden structures as fences, pergolas from moisture, it is enough to use weather-resistant glazes and varnishes, which contain minor chemical additives. If untreated coniferous wood (spruce, pine) is used for the construction, then it needs additional primer with protective agents that contain biologically active substances.
Lazuli and varnishes create a film on the surface of the wood, which regulates moisture permeability, and also makes the structures decorative and effective. Transparent glazes also allow you to enjoy the natural texture of wood, because nature is the most skillful artist.
Lapis lazuli are divided into thin-layer and thick-layer.
Thin-layer glazes
Thin-layer glazes are fluid, which allows them to penetrate deep into the wood. To make the most of their protective power, they are applied to the wooden surface in several layers.
Thick-layer azure
Thick-layer glazes are viscous, therefore they cover the wooden surface with a dense layer. With such a coating, the natural patterns of the wood texture are no longer visible so clearly.
To create a spectacular fence, the pillars are covered with an opaque layer of azure, and the fence fabric is covered with a thin layer of azure. Such a fence looks much more attractive.
A Few Tips
Work on the covering of wooden structures should be carried out in warm dry weather, when forecasters do not predict rain for the next 3-4 hours, so that azure and varnishes have time to become worthy and high-quality protection.
When dry, varnishes and glazes sometimes tend to change color tone. If you want to enhance the color gamut of wood, color correction should be done no earlier than a day after applying the first coating.
Before applying the protective glaze, it is necessary to sand the surface of the wood with sandpaper, and only then apply several layers of it.
Source material and tools
Wood coatings are usually sold ready-to-use and therefore do not require additional thinning. The only thing to do is to mix them thoroughly before starting work.
There is nothing durable in the world: after 3-4 years, cracks or other defects may appear on the wood. To repair the defects that have arisen, it is advisable to use the same means that were used initially. Therefore, after the initial painting, write down the manufacturer's name, marking and color of varnish or paint in your garden diary, so that if you need to repair it, you can buy the same. Do not rely only on your memory, do not load it with unnecessary information.
It is best to apply the protective coating with specially selected rollers and brushes. Today our trade offers a huge selection of such tools of different quality. Their cost is not so high that it makes sense to save on the purchase by buying a lower quality instrument. The higher the quality of the roller and brush, the easier and more pleasant it is to apply paints, glazes and varnishes with them, without leaving hairs falling out of them on the surface of the wood.
