Description
Damask rose is a very spectacular plant with pleasantly scented double flowers, the color of which can vary from rich red to pale pink tones. All flowers fold into luxurious racemose inflorescences and have an average size that ranges from six to eight centimeters. This culture blooms once, while the period of its flowering usually does not exceed twenty to twenty-five days.
The height of the branched perennial shrubs of the Damascus rose, equipped with thickened stem parts, is also quite moderate - from one hundred and fifty to one hundred and eighty centimeters. The drooping or erect shoots of the plant are equipped with a huge number of bristles and thorns, and the large leathery leaves of the Damascus rose are formed by five or seven separate leaves. The leaves of this plant are large enough, crenate type and lanceolate or ovoid.
The pear-shaped fruits of the damask rose are colored deep red and boast a smooth skin and a very peculiar pear-shaped shape.

Since ancient times, the damask rose has been cultivated as a garden crop in the vast majority of the Middle Eastern countries, and it was brought to Europe from Syria only in 1875. Currently, the damask rose is grown all over the world.

It is important for everyone who wants to plant a Damascus rose on their site to try to choose the right place for planting - in no case should the scorching rays of the sun reach the beautiful flowers, otherwise they will simply wither quickly. However, the area should not be too shaded either - the lack of proper lighting often leads to lesions with powdery mildew. And this beautiful plant growing in the shade is often attacked by all kinds of mushroom ailments. And blooming in the shade of the damask rose is also practically absent. Ideally, the site for planting a Damascus rose should be free of drafts, well-lit by the rays of the sun, protected from strong winds, even and without shading by all kinds of tall shrubs or large trees.
The soil for planting a damask rose must be fertile. Loose loam or black earth is especially suitable for these purposes. As a rule, the damask rose is planted in spring, when the soil warms up to fifteen to sixteen degrees. If the region is characterized by a rather mild climate, and the soil meets all the necessary requirements, it is quite acceptable to plant a Damascus rose in the last decade of September. When planting this beautiful plant, a nutrient mixture prepared on the basis of mineral fertilizers, as well as humus and humus in combination with fertile soil, is poured onto the bottom of each planting hole. And the root collars of seedlings are usually buried four to five centimeters. When the root system is covered with soil, the Damascus rose needs to be watered abundantly, and then the soil is mulched with peat or sawdust.
Damask rose requires light winter protection. And in order to simplify the care of these beautiful flowers, from the very first year after planting them in a permanent place, one should begin to form flower bushes - this approach will allow in the future to carry out only sanitary pruning three times per season, and each bush will always delight its happy owners lush and abundant flowering.
