Description of one-sided wintergreen

The one-sided wintergreen is a perennial herb, the height of which is about five to twenty-five centimeters. The plant is endowed with a rather long and branched rhizome, which gives aerial stems and adventitious roots. The leaves of this plant are colored in light green tones, they are sharp and harsh, and also oblong-ovoid. In the upper part, the stem of this plant is planted with rather small, four to eight millimeters, scaly leaves. The flowers of the one-sided wintergreen are in a dense, multi-flowered, one-sided cluster. The lobes of the calyx are wide-triangular; they will be finely toothed at the edges. The lobes of the calyx are four to five times shorter than the petals themselves. The corolla of this plant can be either oval or almost bell-shaped in shape; such a corolla is painted in greenish-white tones. The length of this corolla will be four to five millimeters, and the width is three to five millimeters. The petals will converge, and along the edges they are finely toothed, the length of the box is five to six millimeters, and the width is three to four millimeters.

Blossoming of a lopsided wintergreen falls on the period from June to July. Under natural conditions, this plant is found on the territory of Belarus and Ukraine, as well as in the Caucasus, in Western and Eastern Siberia. In addition, one-sided wintergreen can be found in the west of the European Arctic, as well as in the European part of Russia, with the exception of the Lower Don, Lower Volga and Black Sea regions. For growth, this plant prefers coniferous, mixed and sometimes deciduous forests, as well as mountains up to an altitude of 1300 meters above sea level.

Description of the medicinal properties of one-sided wintergreen

The one-sided wintergreen is endowed with rather valuable healing properties, while for medicinal purposes it is recommended to use the stems, leaves and flowers of this plant. The presence of such valuable medicinal properties is explained by the content of vitamin C, monotropein, as well as phenols and their following derivatives: hydroquinone and arbutin in the plant. In addition, the plant contains tannins, coumarins, methylarbutin, flavonoids and quinones: chymafilin and renifolin.

Infusions, decoctions and tinctures of this plant are used as a diuretic for various kidney diseases and cystitis, as well as for epilepsy. As for the external use of this plant, it is effective in a variety of gynecological diseases. As a wound-healing, hemostatic, astringent, it is recommended to use a decoction prepared on the basis of the leaves of the one-sided wintergreen. Also, such a remedy is used after childbirth, for hemorrhoids and hemoptysis, as well as for the treatment of purulent wounds. The leaves of this plant can be used as a surrogate for tea.

For cystitis, nephritis and epilepsy, it is recommended to prepare the following remedy: to prepare it, you will need to take one tablespoon of the herb of this plant for one glass of boiling water. The resulting mixture should be infused for two hours, and then this mixture is thoroughly filtered. To ensure greater effectiveness, it is recommended to take this remedy two tablespoons three times a day: this intake rate should be strictly observed.
