The aquatic banana, also called the banana plant, is found primarily in slow-flowing or stagnant water bodies in North America. It can be seen especially often on the Atlantic coast. This plant acquired its unusual name due to one very interesting feature - near its roots you can see formations resembling banana bunches. The water banana looks wonderful in aquariums, giving them a special flavor - it looks especially impressive when in the foreground
Getting to know the plant
The water banana, representing the Shift family and reaching a height of about 25 - 35 cm, is endowed with thick cord-like adventitious roots of white color, which do not penetrate too deep into the ground. Impressive banana-like shoots up to 0.6 cm wide and up to 2 cm long extend from the roots. Such processes are painted in a dark green color.
Incredibly tender young leaves of this handsome man grow under water. As a rule, their color is rather pale. A water banana grows on noticeably shortened stems, equipped with rosettes with petioled leaves.
As this handsome man grows, the banana-shaped processes also gradually increase in size, gradually changing their color. And some time later, floating leaves are formed at the wonderful plant.
The fleshy leaf blades of the water banana are round in shape and reach ten centimeters in diameter. In the places where the leaf blades are attached to the cuttings, there are deep cuts. The upper sides of the leaves are painted in olive-greenish tones, and the lower sides with clearly visible veins have pale purple hues.
Light green cuttings of a water banana break quite easily, are dotted with a large number of air chambers and are endowed with a coating of small brownish hairs.
How to grow
The most important when growing a water banana is the temperature regime, which is different for winter and summer: in winter, acceptable temperatures will be 15 - 18 degrees, and in summer - 25 - 27.
An aqueous medium will most preferably be acidic. The size of this aquatic inhabitant, as a rule, depends on the water level.
The soil for growing a water banana must be selected relatively poor in all kinds of nutrients - it will slow down the formation of floating leaves. Well suited for use as soil gravel, in which the plant is planted about a quarter.
Regarding the lighting, it is worth noting that it must be very intense, then the water banana will grow rapidly. It will not be detrimental to this plant and direct sunlight into the aquarium. In general, it does not grow rapidly, releasing one or two leaves a month.
The water banana reproduces due to the numerous floating shoots. Such processes, stretching to the water surface, vaguely resemble the leaves of water lilies. Separate them when they reach a diameter of about four centimeters. The root processes separated in this way start up quickly enough. In principle, the water banana also reproduces well with side shoots. It is also noteworthy that if you cut off a leaf from a water banana and let it float freely, some time later a daughter plant will begin to form at its tip, but it will no longer have banana-like formations.
Sometimes a water banana is also bred in this way: the whole cut leaf is planted in moist ground (the air humidity should also be high), after which the daughter plant growing on it is immediately transplanted into the aquarium as soon as roots are formed on it.
A water banana does not require special care, however, at the same time, it reacts quite sensitively to even the smallest changes in its environment. He is especially sensitive to changes in water hardness, as well as temperature conditions.

Fancy Cucumbers
Together with the usual cucumbers in the garden, you can grow more exotic varieties of these representatives of the pumpkin family. Of course, in an oval shaggy lump or an unusual pear-shaped vegetable it is difficult to recognize a cucumber. Nevertheless, this is how they are called in their homeland. Let's take a closer look at chayote, anguria and trichozant
Fancy Cabbage
White cabbage undoubtedly occupies a special place of honor in our daily diet, as well as in the beds. However, along with it, there are many other interesting varieties that are also distinguished by high taste and nutritional qualities.
