The stems of the blushing hellebore are simple and leafless, at the top they will be weakly branched, as well as shortly pubescent, they are endowed with one to three flowers, which are apical, drooping and large. Such flowers are painted in pale purple or off-white tones, at the base they are yellow-green, and on the outside they will be reddish. The leaves of the blushing hellebore are radical and numerous, their length is equal to twenty to thirty centimeters, they will be long-petiolate, and also endowed with an almost leathery and shiny finger-cut plate, dissected into five to seven segments, which will be pubescent along the veins below. The fruits of this plant are prefabricated leaflets that will grow together at the base, and their length will be about fifteen to twenty centimeters. The seeds of this plant are colored black, they will be numerous and keeled-elliptical.
The blooming hellebore blooms in the period from March to April, while the fruit ripens in May-June. Under natural conditions, this plant is found on the territory of Transcarpathia, in the Carpathians, in the middle part of the Dniester basin and in southwestern Ukraine. For growth, this plant prefers forest edges, mountain slopes, open sunny meadows, sparse deciduous forests, river valleys, rocky talus, and rich soils.
Description of the medicinal properties of the blushing hellebore
The blushing hellebore is endowed with very valuable healing properties, while for medicinal purposes it is recommended to use the rhizome and roots of this plant, and sometimes also the leaves. It is noteworthy that the blushing hellebore is a poisonous plant, for this reason, when harvesting raw materials and any handling of this plant, it is so important to observe strict caution.
The presence of such valuable medicinal properties should be explained by the content of corelborin glycoside and other cardiac glycosides in the roots and rhizomes of this plant.
It is noteworthy that in terms of the speed of action, glycosides of the blushing hellebore are very close to glycosides of strophanthus, and in terms of the duration of exposure, preparations based on this plant turn out to be very similar to foxglove. With digitalis, such drugs will also be similar due to the ability to accumulate in the body.
It should be noted that when used topically, preparations based on this plant will irritate the tissues. It is important to remember that such a strong local irritant will be capable of causing both diarrhea and vomiting. As for traditional medicine, the roots of this plant were widely used here, which were used as a fairly effective laxative based on the blushing hellebore.
