Galax (Latin Galax) - a low decorative-leaved plant from the Cletrovye family.

Description

Galax is an evergreen herbaceous rhizome plant that forms rather loose, low bushes, the height of which usually ranges from ten to thirty centimeters. The whole alternate galax leaves, sitting on long petioles, are always glossy, dark and characterized by a reniform shape with heart-shaped bases. And the diameter of the leaves is about seven to eight centimeters.

The flowers of the galax are small and inexpressive, but they are all equipped with rather pretty short tubes and gather in loose racemose inflorescences.

The name of the plant has Greek roots - it comes from the Greek word "gala", which translates as "milk".

Where grows

The mountain forests located in the eastern part of North America are considered to be the birthplace of the galax.

Usage

This is a real find for modern floristry! Galax is a wonderful groundcover with a very unusual leathery texture that will look especially good in bulk. It is truly an indispensable tool for decorating very large surfaces! And the incredible plasticity of galax opens up tremendous opportunities for the most diverse transformation of this material: it can be fastened, sewn, twisted, and so on, and the plant will remain intact and unharmed!

Glossy leathery galax leaves in combination with rough or fluffy textures of a great variety of other plants allow you to instantly add unmatched bright contrasts to absolutely any composition!

When used in bouquets, galax is usually placed in water at room temperature. At the same time, this handsome man is capable of standing in the cut from five to ten days to two weeks or even more! And it can also stay in the refrigerator for a long time in dry storage wrapped in cellophane!

Growing and caring

Galax will feel best in shady areas, being planted on soils that are not characterized by excessive lime content. Soils must be fertile and light, with a neutral or acidic reaction. And for successful wintering in the conditions of central Russia, this plant will definitely need a good shelter.

Reproduction of galax is carried out by division in the spring. Seed propagation is also quite acceptable - seeds are also sown in the spring, only they are rarely formed on plants.

As for possible damage by any pests or diseases, they are usually not typical for galax.
