Whatever wonderful seeds of garden crops you buy for your plot, in the end, the success of the harvest will largely depend on the tillage and preparation of the soil for sowing. Some events are best done well in advance, in the fall. Other procedures are planned just before the spring season. Special work lies ahead for those summer residents who are preparing for sowing for the first time
Weeds don't belong here
On a new plot with untouched land, it is better to start developing the soil in the fall, or even summer. First of all, you need to get rid of weeds - sow thistle, bindweed, buttercup, dandelion. Weed rhizomes penetrate deep into the soil, and you will have to do a good job with a shovel.
In addition, old stumps and dry trees are uprooted. If a lilac bush grows on the site that you are going to adapt for a garden, you need to get rid of it right away. Over time, it will grow and it will be extremely difficult to clear the area of overgrowth and deep roots.
What to bring for digging
Heavy clay soils need to be helped to improve the quality of the soil. To this end, under the late autumn digging, organic fertilizers and additives are introduced that will loosen the structure. To do this, based on 1 square meter, you will need:
• manure or compost - half a bucket;
• sand, wood ash - per liter can.
Digging depth - at least 20 cm. In this case, clods should not be crushed, otherwise snow retention in the upper layers will be worse, and the soil will not accumulate the required amount of moisture. In addition, this technique contributes to the death of wintering larvae and eggs of pests.
On light soils and autumn digging will not be difficult. Application of organic fertilizers is encouraged, but sand should not be applied.
If all these measures have been carried out, at the end of winter, it will only be necessary to loosen the top layer of soil with a rake to a depth of about 5-7 cm. When the site first has to be developed in the fall, it will be necessary to dig deeper - up to 20 cm, and then thoroughly crush the ground with a rake. Small-seeded crops are not planted this season. Seedlings are placed on the beds: tomatoes, cabbage, pumpkin, zucchini. Fertilizers are sealed locally, according to the needs of a particular crop:
• rotted manure - for early cabbage, pumpkin (cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkin);
• fresh manure - for late cabbage;
• compost + mineral dressing - for corn and nightshade (tomatoes, peppers, eggplants);
• humus + mineral dressing - for onions, root crops;
• humus + wood ash - for an early harvest of potatoes;
• fresh manure + wood ash - for late harvest of potatoes.
When to start tillage? This can be found out in a simple way. From a depth of about 10 cm, they gather a handful of earth, squeeze it in a fist, stretch their hand in front of them and throw a lump down:
• if it crumbled, it means that the earth is dry and the time is lost;
• when the lump remains intact, slightly flattened from the impact - the ground is too wet and it is too early to start processing;
• if the lump cracked and fell apart into several parts, this indicates that the soil is ripe for processing.
Don't forget about greenhouses and greenhouses
Protected soil also needs our attention. If you let things take their course and do not disinfect the seedling soil before the start of the season, it will become a breeding ground for diseases such as late blight, keela, black leg and other infections.
At the first signs of infection, it is necessary to process the land with bleach, and then freeze it on the street. In the summer they shovel her. Such soil can be reused no earlier than after 2 years, and if a keel is found, plants of the cabbage family are not planted on it for at least 5 years.

Digging The Earth
From time to time there are disputes between farmers about digging the land. Some believe that digging violates the nature of nature and adds extra work to a person, without increasing the yield of the beds. So to dig or not to dig?
We Return The Debts To The Earth
By harvesting tops in a compost heap in autumn or burning them on a fire, we do a disservice to the soil, depleting it with components useful for plants, and create ourselves additional work and extra costs for fertilizing the soil, pest control, wishing to get a decent harvest
Storage Of Seedlings - Taking Care Of The Future Harvest
A good owner begins to take care of the future harvest in advance: in the previous season. Onions have not yet been selected from the beds this year, but you already need to think about what, how and where to place in the next. It is also important to know how to store the seedlings correctly so that the crop grown from it does not disappoint with its quality
Taking Action Against The Raspberry Beetle
The raspberry beetle, also called the raspberry beetle, is distinguished by a special love for raspberries, but sometimes it can also be found on various fruit trees, as well as on drupes and blackberries. The appetizing berries damaged by it quickly fade, shrink, wither and begin to rot. To save the harvest of fragrant and tasty berries, you should start the fight against this pest in a timely manner
