Farbitis (Latin Ipomoea) - a flowering plant belonging to the Bindweed family. The second name is morning glory.
Description
Farbitis is a climbing vine, which can be both an annual and a perennial. And the length of this vine can easily reach four to five meters.
The heart-shaped leaves of the farbitis are located on rather long petioles, and the diameter of the large tubular or funnel-shaped flowers of this handsome man often reaches ten centimeters. As for the color of these flowers, it can be as varied as you like: blue, and purple, and dark purple, and pink, and blue.
The genus of farbitis is very extensive - it has more than half a thousand species. At the same time, this plant is unknown to science in the wild.
Where grows
Farbitis is especially widespread in the subtropics and tropics of the Old and New Worlds.
Usage
Since ancient times, farbitis has been cultivated as an agricultural crop. Especially valuable crops are aquatic spinach and sweet potato - sweet potato tubers have always been very actively used for food purposes. Depending on the variety, the taste of sweet potato tubers is somewhat reminiscent of frozen sweet potatoes, which is why it is sometimes called “sweet potatoes”. And in some other varieties of sweet potatoes, the taste of tubers is somewhat reminiscent of the taste of pumpkin, melon, bananas or even chestnuts.
Among other things, this plant is quite widely used in ornamental gardening - ornamental varieties with spectacular leaves are especially in demand in this regard. Farbitis is an excellent solution both for shading the sun terrace and for hiding the site from prying eyes, or for creating a spectacular fence between the garden corner intended for relaxation and the utility area. Also, with the help of these amazing vines, it will not be difficult to decorate dried trees, the hands of which have not yet reached up to uprooting. And with sufficient amounts of land in boxes, farbitis will grow very well on loggias with balconies, mainly from the southeast or south side. The best partner plants for this handsome man will be such bright annuals as marigolds, begonias and nasturtiums.
Growing and caring
Farbitis will grow best in areas that are well protected from the wind and well-warmed by the sun. At the same time, it is recommended to plant this plant in rich loose soils. By the way, almost all varieties of farbitis need proper support, and this fact, too, should never be discounted.
Farbitis needs regular watering (while it is intolerant of water stagnation!), In addition, this plant needs periodic feeding - from June to mid-August, approximately once every two to three weeks it should be fed with good full fertilizers. It is important to take into account that an excess of nitrogen will contribute to an increase in green mass to the detriment of the flowering of a beautiful plant. As for frosts, even the most insignificant and insignificant ones, Farbitis does not tolerate them at all.
Reproduction of climbing species of farbitis is carried out in May by sowing them to a permanent place, observing an interval of twenty centimeters. As a rule, two or three seeds are placed in each hole. As for the ornamental varieties of sweet potatoes, they are usually propagated by tubers and cultivated by analogy with potatoes (it is noteworthy that a number of varieties do not bloom at all, and this is normal!). Having dug up the tubers in the fall, they are thoroughly dried, after which they are sent for storage until spring at a temperature of thirteen to sixteen degrees.
