Submerged hornwort is one of the plants of the family called hornworts, in Latin the name of this plant will sound like this: Ceratophyllum demersum L. As for the name of the submerged hornwort family itself, in Latin it will be like this: Ceratophyllaceae.

Description of submerged hornwort

Submerged hornwort is a perennial dark green plant, which in the upper part will be endowed with strongly branched stems. The leaves of this plant, four to twelve pieces, will be in whorls, with each leaf being cut into two to four linear segments, which in turn will be jagged along the edge and gristly at the very top, and the length of such segments turns out to be about one and a half to two centimeters. The fruits of submerged hornwort are oval in shape, their length is about four to five millimeters, such fruits will be endowed with three spines, while the apical one will be almost twice as long as the fruit. Two spines, which are located at the very base, are bent downward; they can be either equal to the fruit itself, or somewhat shorter than it.

The submerged hornwort blooms in the summer. Under natural conditions, this plant is found on the territory of Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Western and Eastern Siberia, as well as all regions of the European part of Russia, with the exception of only the north of the Karelo-Murmansk region. For growth, this plant prefers thickets, lakes, oxbows and ponds in slowly flowing waters.

Description of the medicinal properties of submerged hornwort

Submerged hornwort is endowed with very valuable healing properties, while it is recommended to use the whole plant for medicinal purposes.

As for traditional medicine, here submerged hornwort has become quite widespread. This plant is used as an anti-malarial and antipyretic agent, and is also used for scorpion bites and jaundice. The water extract of this plant is used for hypertension. It is noteworthy that submerged hornwort is a phytoncide and will have a detrimental effect on blue-green algae. In addition, this plant turns out to be suitable for green fertilization of ponds.

It should be noted that the stem of this plant provides food for fish, waterfowl and many animals. For polishing work, you can use this plant, which is due to the content of silica in it in a fairly large amount.

For blood vomiting in China, a powder made from about three to six grams of dry herb is used. To prepare such a very effective healing agent based on this plant, you will need to take the whole hornwort immersed and then rinse the plant very well in water, then leave it to dry in the shade or in the oven. After that, you should grind the resulting mixture into powder, then you should prepare pills, for which you will need to mix such a powder with water and honey. The resulting healing agent is taken on the basis of hornwort immersed in chronic inflammation of the trachea from two to three times a day, two and a half to three and a half grams. It should be noted that such a drug based on hornwort immersed in large quantities can be used for diarrhea. It is important to note that one should strictly follow all the norms for the preparation and use of this remedy: in this case, the positive effect will be noticeable rather quickly, depending on the severity of the disease.
