A rare person will be able to resist a bright and fragrant piece of watermelon. However, the very high season of juicy watermelons can be overshadowed by an unfortunate surprise - food poisoning. If all the measures necessary to alleviate the condition are not carried out in time, then it can be greatly aggravated, and it will no longer be possible to do without medical assistance. In this regard, each person should know how to behave in case of poisoning with the acquired watermelon

Poisoning reasons

A watermelon of proper quality does not pose any danger to human health. But, unfortunately, watermelon may not always be so. There are two main causes of juicy striped berry poisoning.

First, such unpleasant consequences can easily be caused by the content of nitrates caused by the illiterate use of nitrogen-containing fertilizers. Such fertilizers are not only able to accumulate in the soil - they often penetrate into groundwater and are concentrated in a wide variety of agricultural products (mainly in watermelons and cucumbers with herbs). And since nitrogen to a large extent favors the speedy growth of valuable green mass, it is widely used as a growth stimulant. Once in the human body, harmful nitrates are converted into much more toxic nitrites. And in the watermelons themselves, a similar process can also occur (most often with improper storage).

Secondly, there is a rather high risk of poisoning with such a watermelon, in which there has been an accumulation of harmful microorganisms due to its improper or too long storage, as well as due to a violation of its integrity. It is no secret that watermelon pulp contains a lot of all kinds of nutrients and quite a lot of easily digestible sugars, which serve as an excellent medium for pathogenic microorganisms that provoke fermentation.

Poisoning symptoms

Most often, the manifestation of the very first symptoms of poisoning is observed after drinking watermelon after about 2 to 6 hours. The main symptoms are: cramps and severe abdominal pain, a gradual increase in temperature, diarrhea (this trouble can happen up to ten to fifteen times a day), weakness, chills, nausea, and a little less often - vomiting, aching joints, as well as dizziness and sharp headaches.

If the poisoning is very strong, cardiac activity may also be disturbed: shortness of breath suddenly appears and the heart rate increases, and the pressure also drops. This is due to the fact that nitrites disrupt the processes of tissue respiration, as well as the vital process of oxygen transfer by the blood. In most cases, the vessels gradually expand, thereby aggravating the state of hypoxia (in other words, a person experiences a lack of oxygen). As a result of such changes in the body, the nail bed and lips can turn blue, and in rare cases, even convulsions occur.

With a particularly high concentration of nitrates, the mucous membranes of both the intestine and the stomach can be severely affected. The stool is chocolate-colored (closer to black), and blood may appear in it.

And if the whites of the eyes appear yellow, it means that the poisoning has also affected the liver.

First aid

In the case of a mild form of poisoning, it is quite possible to cope with it even at home. Of course, first of all, you need to take all the necessary measures to remove the poison from the body and completely neutralize it in the intestines.

The first step is to wash the stomach. To make it easier to do, first drink a solid dose of a slightly pink solution of potassium permanganate or salted water, and then provoke vomiting. If necessary, the procedure can be duplicated - as a result, only pure water should come out of the body.

As soon as the stomach is cleansed, they switch to the intake of enterosorbents - this is the name for drugs that rather quickly neutralize the poisons in the intestinal lumen. In addition to activated carbon, these include Enterosgel, Smecta and Polysorb MP.

You should also drink as much liquid as possible - this is necessary in order to prevent rapid dehydration of the body, as well as to stimulate the speedy elimination of accumulated toxins along with urine.

When the nausea stops, it is recommended to drink a sweet lemon tea.

But antidiarrheal or analgesic drugs in such a situation are extremely undesirable to take, since they not only mask the true state of the body, but also prevent the rapid elimination of the ill-fated toxins from the intestines.

If threatening symptoms began to appear like continuous and fairly severe diarrhea, indomitable vomiting, partial clouding of consciousness and disruption of the cardiovascular system, you should definitely seek appropriate medical help.
