Picturesque Lawns Of St. Petersburg

The first half of June this year did not indulge Peter with summer warmth. It seems that the day is long, and the sun happens in the heavens, but the cold wind makes older people keep their warm jackets. Young people are in a different mood: since summer has come, down with warm clothes. Taking an example from the young, the city lawns turn green and fragrant, delighting the residents of St. Petersburg with lush greenery and picturesque diversity of flowering

The usual plants of city lawns, adorning not only St. Petersburg courtyards, but also courtyards of other Russian cities, including my native Novokuznetsk, everywhere delight the townspeople with bright colors. The friendly inflorescences of Forget-me-nots, woven of delicate and graceful flowers, turn blue. Large, fancifully painted "faces" of Pansies with surprise look at passers-by who do not want to recognize the arrival of summer, as in the photo on the right, taken opposite the monument to Alexander Nevsky. Marigolds (as in the main photo) and Petunias admire the variety of species and color of petals. Tulips are still blooming in some places, and large buds of cornflowers are only gaining strength.

Among the garden old-timers dear to the heart, alien plants that appeared on city lawns not so long ago stand out for their size and abundant, spectacular flowering. They owe their appearance not so much to city greening services as to enthusiasts from St. Petersburg who love their city and spare no effort and time to decorate it.

Comfrey medicinal

The certain unpretentiousness of the miraculous plant called "Comfrey officinalis", which grows equally well both in the sun and in the shade, is violated when it comes to soil. In principle, Comfrey can grow on any soil, but it demonstrates its amazing abilities more effectively on moist and humus-rich soils. The first half of June of this year in St. Petersburg was rich in rain, and therefore, it was simply impossible not to notice the tall bushes with beautiful large leaves and drooping inflorescences of violet-blue bells.

I was surprised that the chains of brave comfrey bushes stretched from one house lawn to another, and also grew along the street pedestrian sidewalks. The impression was that Comfrey, once planted by a man, continues to crawl over the lawns on its own, conquering new territories. If it were not for the pollution of the urban soil, the roots of the plant could provide the residents of St. Petersburg with an excellent service in the treatment of fractures and other ailments. After all, their unique ability to enhance the regenerative function of the tissues of the human body has been known since ancient times.

Volzhanka vulgaris or Aruncus dioecious

A perennial herbaceous tall plant with the name "Volzhanka ordinary" somehow does not justify its epithet - "ordinary". Its spreading paniculate openwork inflorescences of small white flowers effectively rise above the complex feathery picturesque leaves, holding on to the stems with the help of strong, long petioles. Against the background of a metal fence, the plant looks like an extraordinary festive snow-white fireworks.

In addition to its spectacular appearance, Volzhanka vulgaris is distinguished by its unpretentiousness to the soil, as well as tolerance to the shady areas of the garden or flower garden. The plant looks great as a stand-alone bush or can decorate the background of a mixborder.

Verbeynik point

This large bush, created by green leaves and inflorescences of Verbeinik dotted, resembles a birthday cake with personalized candles of sunny yellow color. A picturesque plant is very unpretentious to the conditions of life. It is cold-resistant and winters well in St. Petersburg without additional shelter. Any soils are suitable for point verbeinik.

The dotted loaf is not only beautiful, but also has healing powers. Traditional healers willingly use Verbeinik point to restore the normal functioning of the gastrointestinal system. True, they do not recommend self-medication, since there are a number of contraindications when using the plant.

At the end of the article, I propose to admire the bright Peonies that adorn the St. Petersburg glade near the house. After all, even a rainy and chilly June cannot do without blooming Peonies!
