Delightful hyacinths delight our eyes and give us extremely positive emotions. To enjoy their vibrant blooms for as long as possible, it is imperative to provide them with proper care. And in order to protect hyacinths from dangerous ailments, it is important to know how they appear on these beautiful flowers, and what the very first symptoms of each disease look like

Bulb penicillosis

This ailment attacks hyacinth bulbs if they are stored in high humidity and at temperatures below seventeen degrees. Infection and damaged bulbs cannot be avoided.

The manifestation of the first symptoms of penicillosis can be observed before planting the bulbs - it is expressed in the drying out of the tips of the roots. And the tissues surrounding the bottom in the places of the cuts are always painted in light brown tones. The decay process that starts during the storage period of the bulbs does not stop after they are planted. As a rule, diseased bulbs either do not form roots at all, or form very few of them. And the peduncles of beautiful plants are noticeably shortened and break off without much difficulty. Also, in the affected areas, the development of huge colonies of the fungus begins, posing as a greenish-blue or white color, and the tissues under them quickly soften and immediately turn brown.

Parasitic apical rot

On the flowers of hyacinths, and sometimes on their leaves, you can see light brown irregular dents. In the case of a particularly intense infection, these dents gradually enlarge, and the tips of the leaves turn brown and become covered with destructive fungal mycelium. If the temperature rises, the infection will begin to rage even more.

Some time later, the roots of the plants are also affected - they begin to rot in the direction from the tips to the bases and stop absorbing water, which in turn leads to the inevitable drying out of hyacinths, as well as to their short stature.

Physiological apical rot

The very first symptom of this unfortunate misfortune is a change in the color of flowers from cream to white. As a rule, this happens after the hyacinths have been brought into the room. And the affected stamens of beautiful flowers become glassy and gradually begin to fade.

Often, rotting flowers are covered with greenish-blue mushroom colonies, and their peduncles are painted in characteristic brownish-red tones. With the establishment of wet and cool weather, the disease begins to progress.

Mosaic

The leaves of hyacinths attacked by this scourge begin to become covered with light green strokes and specks. After some time, the affected areas turn yellow, become smaller, necrotic and become very narrow. On the affected flower arrows, you can see whitish stripes and strokes, and the flowers are covered with thin longitudinal stripes and are characterized by variegation. As for the lower flowers, they are often underdeveloped.

Variegated

Small specks appear on the leaves of the hyacinth along the veins, and necrotic areas can be seen on the sections of the bulbs (both transversely and longitudinally).

Soft bacterial rot

When affected by this scourge, hyacinths begin to turn yellow, stunted and wither. The flowering of infected plants completely stops, and their bulbs begin to gradually rot (the rot that forms on them is somewhat similar to wet rot).

Gray rot

This ailment is characterized by the appearance on the leaves of hyacinths (during the distillation period), at first small yellowish, and subsequently increasing and turning brown spots. On the bulbs removed from the soil, you can also notice small brownish specks and an abundance of tiny black sclerotia. All infected bulbs rot very quickly and are abundantly covered with a grayish mushroom bloom.
