Successful cultivation of murraya is not possible without knowledge of agricultural technology. Ensuring proper care is the key to the longevity of the plant, increasing the yield of valuable fruits. To begin with, consider the methods of breeding fragrant bushes
Reproduction
For "orange jasmine" two forms of increasing the amount of planting material are used:
• seed;
• vegetative (cuttings).
Both methods are used by flower growers at home.
Seed intake
Fresh seeds have excellent germination. Ideally, they are taken from the available raw fruits, transferred directly to the ground. It is not advisable to dry the planting material. This is why factory seeds from packs do not germinate well.
Berries can be obtained from friends or from collectors who like to write out by mail. The fruits ripen all year round, so murraya is planted at any time.
Factory seed is soaked for several hours in growth stimulants or a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Freshly harvested - they do not need such a procedure.
Prepare a substrate from peat, sand in equal proportions. Use individual cups or larger containers. The first option is preferable. At the same time, additional picking of plants is not required, the root system is preserved without damage.
A hole is pierced at the bottom to drain excess water. The soil is poured, grooves are cut with a depth of 0.5-0.8 cm. The seeds are laid at a distance of 3 cm from each other. They are planted in cups one at a time - in the center of the container. Cover with earth, slightly compact the surface. Spray gently from a spray bottle, being careful not to erode the soil. Cover with a transparent material (glass, film).
The crops are periodically ventilated, monitoring the moisture content of the substrate. Planting is moistened as needed. After 35-40 days, the first shoots will appear. In the phase of 2-3 true leaves, the plants dive into separate containers. It is advisable to take a volume of at least 0.5 liters. Within 2 years, the bushes will feel great in this dish without additional transplantation.
Cuttings
Rooting cuttings is a difficult and painstaking process. The percentage of the output of the finished material is small. In the spring, branches are cut from the apical shoots 8 cm long. The lower leaves are removed completely, the upper ones are slightly shortened.
A loose substrate with a predominance of sand is prepared. The ends are treated with root powder. Cuttings are planted in the soil at an angle of 45 degrees. Cover with a glass jar or plastic bottle.
The plantings are periodically aired, removing the “caps” for a few minutes. Monitor soil moisture. The slightest overdrying will dry out thin, young roots. They try to maintain the ambient temperature at 25 degrees.
After a month, with successful rooting, dormant buds will start to grow, forming new shoots. At two months of age, the cuttings can be transplanted to a permanent place in a fertile substrate, trying to less disturb the underdeveloped root system.
Growing
Caring for murraya consists in regular watering, dressing in the spring-summer period 2 times a month with a complex fertilizer for flowers, in winter 1 time per month.
Pruning bushes in early spring allows you to form a lush, dense crown of the correct shape. Shoots growing inward are removed completely. The uniformity of the growth of the branches is facilitated by the periodic turning of the plant, relative to the light source.
The first 2-3 years, the buds are removed, allowing the "orange jasmine" to grow stronger.
Young bushes are transplanted annually in early spring, after the roots have mastered the earth's coma, adults - once every 3 years. The size of the container is gradually increased by 1-2 cm. A quarter of the pot is filled with a drainage layer (expanded clay, clay shards, pebbles). The root collar is left at ground level. Excessive deepening will lead to a suspension of fruiting.
We will consider the areas of application of murraya in the next article.
