Warmth into the house

When it gets cold in our apartments with the onset of winter, then you think about the time to insulate your "den". A cold house is not only discomfort and lack of comfort, but also the source of a number of problems. And if your apartment has a cold floor, then, as a rule, there are more of them

Just imagine, for almost the whole year you and your family members are forced to walk on a cold surface, which is fraught with at least colds. What if your young children, for example, have to crawl on such a cold floor?

We ourselves have recently thought about why we get sick so often? It seems to be warm in our house, but there are several problem areas: a toilet, a bathroom and a kitchen, where the air is warm, but at the same time the floors are cold. Agree, we spend a lot of time in these places. And, for example, in the bathroom we walk with bare and wet feet. It was decided that if we want to stop getting sick, we need to insulate the floors!

As I said, we have problems in several rooms. Moreover, in the bathroom and toilet we have concrete floors covered with tiles, and in the kitchen there are wooden floors covered with linoleum. And, as it turned out, the type of floor affects the insulation scheme. We decided to start with the toilet for two interrelated reasons: the floors are concrete and it is much easier to make them warmer than wood.

It was decided to use roll insulation. We will not recommend certain material, since the price tag is different for everyone, and this is perhaps their only difference. After we decided on the insulation, the most difficult thing began - to remove the tiles, which I planned to do for centuries. But, as you can see, it didn't work out. But, by the way, it's even better. I never liked this tile, but here there is a reason to replace it, and at the same time level the floor. After we removed everything that separated us from the concrete floor, we put it in order: all the debris and dust was removed, the floor was dried. Next, insulation was laid in two layers. It is worth noting that in the hardware store we were assured of the following: one layer is enough, but we decided that we would not lose anything if we double the heat. Moreover, we have a small toilet, you can experiment. Then, as usual, the tiles were installed.

But in the bathroom they decided to try out a new technology (new for us, because many have taken root for a long time), which is usually called "warm floors". Following the same principle as in the toilet, we prepared the floor (removed the tiles, swept out the debris and dried the floor). Next, they put in almost the same insulation as in the toilet, but not in two, but in three layers, and a special film was placed between them, from which the heat will flow. Frankly, I did not think that this system is so simple. But it really is.

By the way, it took us a little over two days to work in the toilet and bathroom! Now all that remained was to deal with the wooden floor in the kitchen.

The first thing to remember when insulating such a floor is that the distance to the ceiling will decrease by exactly as much as the amount of insulation you decide to put in. This fact does not scare us, since the ceilings are high, and it is not scary to lose even 5-10 centimeters.

Before getting to work, we studied several ways. But many of them seemed too complicated and time consuming, and we did not want to delay the repairs. Therefore, we removed the linoleum, opened the floors and installed insulation between the beams. Many friends advised me to stop there. But we decided that this was not enough. Therefore, after the boards were again covered, they were covered with one layer of roll insulation, and it was already covered with linoleum.

This work took a little over three days. But now the house is even warmer, and you can even walk barefoot on the floor.
