Repeated sowing of kohlrabi can be carried out in the second half of the summer. Let's remember what features of this unusual cabbage should be known in order for it to delight us with the harvest of original cabbage stumps
Features of kohlrabi
There are many different unusual representatives in the large cabbage family. And kohlrabi is just one of these original cultures. Contrary to the more common in our garden tradition, this cabbage is not grown in order to get leaves, but in order to grow an interesting type of stem crop. And since this vegetable has very valuable characteristics in the middle lane - cold resistance and early maturity, not to mention high nutritional qualities, this may be of great interest to gardeners who cultivate their plots in cold regions and short summers.
Another valuable property is resistance to heat and drought. Nevertheless, among the intricacies of care is regular, moderate watering. The fact is that the stem grower must constantly increase in size. If you break the regime and let it stop growing, it will begin to crack.
Sowing turnip cabbage and planting seedlings
Kohlrabi can be grown both by sowing in open ground and through seedlings. For sowing seedlings, an open nursery is used. Sowing is carried out by the nesting method, 3-4 seeds per hole.
When the senses grow up, some of them can be transplanted to another place for growing. The bed is first watered, and then those that develop more slowly and worse are removed from the soil. They are also able to give a crop, but somewhat later than their stronger fellow tribesmen.
The seedlings are transferred to a permanent place when they have 5-6 leaves. This is an unpretentious plant, it grows on any type of soil. If your garden plot has poor soils, this can be corrected by adding humus. But it is better not to use fresh manure. You can also fill the garden with such fertilizers:
• ammonium nitrate;
• potassium sulfate;
• superphosphate.
Seedlings are planted at different distances depending on the characteristics of the variety. Holes for the early ones can be made at a distance of about 20 cm, for row spacings 60-70 cm are left. Mid-season and late ones need more space - from 25 to 30 cm in a row.
Caring for beds with kohlrabi
Kohlrabi care consists in loosening and watering. The roots of cabbage, when properly planted, are at the very surface. They can be lightly sprinkled with earth. But it is worth saving gardeners from the temptation to start hilling. From this, roots can begin to form on the stem, and it will noticeably coarse.
Watering also needs to be taken very carefully. The plant will not die from drought, but the taste characteristics will still be lost from this: the stem fruit becomes woody. Therefore, you need to adhere to the following scheme:
• at the initial stage of development for 1 sq. M. beds consume 10 liters of water;
• as the cabbage grows, this volume is increased to 60 liters.
You cannot visit kohlrabi only once a week. Standing on dry rations, with a single abundant watering, this is fraught with cracking of the stumps. It is better to water a little, but do it more often.
Loosening is started after a week and a half after planting seedlings in the beds. The next time this procedure is carried out after the gardener notices the presence of a soil crust.
You can feed the kohlrabi. To do this, apply:
• ammonium nitrate;
• potassium sulfate.
This is done twice a season, they use 0, 5 tables. spoons per 1 sq.
Harvest
Overexposing the vegetable in the beds is not worth it. You should familiarize yourself with the characteristics of the variety and start harvesting when it reaches its optimal size. Kohlrabi can grow even more, but from this it loses its taste: it coarsens, stiffens, and essential oils give a sharp taste and not everyone has a pleasant smell.
Kohlrabi is pulled from the beds by the root. The leaves are cut, leaving a stalk about 2 cm long. Although kohlrabi is grown to obtain a "turnip", the leaves are also used for food.
You can store the crop in the cellar, sprinkled with sand. Early varieties are best eaten first, they will retain their presentation for about 2 months after harvest. And the later ones are able to lie three times longer.

Pale Meadow Moth - The Enemy Of Umbrella Crops
The pale meadow moth is found literally everywhere. This parasite can be encountered especially often in central Russia and the Caucasus. It mainly damages the testes of carrots and parsnips, as well as some other umbrella crops. The result of its harmful activity is a noticeable decrease in the quality of seeds and a significant decrease in yield. Harmful caterpillars damage the testes of umbelliferous plants quite badly - they not only gnaw fragile pedicels, but also
Radish: Summer Crops
For those who did not have time to sow radishes in the spring, you can do this at the end of summer. In June and July, such work does not have to be done, since not the most favorable conditions are formed for radish during this period. Summer heat and drought, and also a long daylight hours, lead to the fact that the plants shoot quickly. But already in August, the sun rather hides behind the horizon, which makes it possible to re-engage in the sowing of this culture. And the harvest will turn out even better than the spring
Carrots: Summer Crops
As you know, carrots belong to the group of cold-resistant vegetables, however, the most suitable temperature indicators for its cultivation are about + 22 … + 25 ° С. And in July it is not too late to sow early carrots, which are not intended for long-term storage in winter, but which will immediately be eaten in the first months of autumn. Such crops are best obtained in areas of the vegetable garden cleaned after early cabbage. It is not recommended to allocate for sowing places from which other barks have recently been removed
April Crops Of Early Crops
Many vegetable crops have already been sown for seedlings in the winter in early spring. And what to do with yourself in April, while eggplants and peppers with tomatoes are waiting for relocation to the beds? Is it really worthless to lose a whole month? Experienced gardeners know that this is one of the most important months of the year when you need to lay the foundation for getting your first vitamins from your garden. While vegetables with a long period of development are waiting for their turn, their free areas should be used for obtaining early crops. Sown
