Ducheney is a perennial ground cover plant. Outwardly it resembles an ordinary strawberry: the same trifoliate leaves, flowers and red berries. The berries, however, unlike strawberries, are not hidden under the leaves, but are located in a conspicuous place
In fact, the berries of this plant can be considered conditionally edible, from one or two there will be nothing, but from a large amount there will be poisoning. By the way, Indian dusheney has excellent medicinal properties. But we will consider in more detail the medicinal properties of duchenei and recipes in another article, but for now, let's return to this ground cover plant. By the way, it can be used not only as a street plant, but also as a houseplant. On the windowsill, the dusheney berries look no less charming than on the flower bed.
Landing ducheneuil
You can grow a dusheney from seeds or by rooting antennae from a plant that has it. By the way, the seeds have a very high germination rate, which lasts for several years. Before planting in the soil, the seeds must be stratified, that is, kept in a damp cloth in the refrigerator. Then carefully plant in a container with peat and lightly press into the soil. Water from a spray bottle as needed, and after the appearance of the first two or three true leaves, plant them in a permanent place in a flower bed, in a pot or hanging planter. The growth rate of the ducheneu is quite high and in about a year it will fill the area allotted to it. Please note that this plant should be regularly renewed, as the old "rosettes" of leaves lose their visual appeal.
Choose a flowerbed for the permanent growth of duchenee not in direct sun, but in partial shade under the trees, since the optimal temperature for this plant is 18-20 degrees Celsius, in the heat in the sun it can simply die.
Reproduction
After the appearance of one or two bushes on your site, further reproduction of the duchenei will not be difficult. It reproduces in the same way as strawberries - it releases "tendrils" on which sockets are formed. After the appearance of 1-2 true leaves, the rosettes take root. In autumn or spring, the ducheneu can be planted.
Dusheney care
Dushenei care is not difficult. Firstly, it must be watered regularly, as soon as the plant does not have enough moisture, its leaves will immediately droop. Secondly, you need to periodically feed the plant, alternating mineral fertilizers with organic ones. The frequency of feeding is once a week.
With the onset of autumn, watering and feeding is stopped so that the plant has time to prepare for hibernation.
By the way, the duchenee is not a frost-resistant plant, it does not tolerate air temperatures below zero degrees, so for the winter it must be covered with any material: straw, spruce branches, non-woven material, otherwise the flower bed will be empty in spring.
Pests
The main enemies of the Indian duchenei in our areas are snails and slugs. They must be removed from the plant and harvested; the leaves can be treated with special chemicals against these pests.
If you grow a dusheney as a houseplant, then a spider mite can be a pest here. To get rid of it, wash the plant with soapy water or treat it with a special preparation for spider mites.
A little interesting
Ducheneu can be used not only as a ground cover plant, it perfectly strengthens the slopes, looks good on an alpine slide or in rockeries. It can be planted in a multi-tiered or hanging pots, if you do not remove the antennae, but let them down into the pots, you can create the effect of an ampelous plant. It won't hurt the most durable.
By the way, this plant was brought to some countries as an ornamental plant, but due to its rapid growth, it was transferred to the category of weeds.
