Phlox paniculata (Latin Phlox paniculata) - a species obtained by hybridization and combining many varieties that differ in height, foliage, color and shape of inflorescences, as well as flowering times. Belongs to the Sinyukhovye family.

Characteristics of culture

Phlox paniculata is a perennial plant up to 150 cm high (depending on the variety, although most varieties on the market have a height of 60-100 cm, tall ones are rare). In many ways, plant growth also depends on the growing conditions, including the intensity of illumination, for example, in areas with diffused light, phloxes grow more actively, in addition, they have a rich color of inflorescences, in bright sun - plants slow down in growth in height.

The stems of most varieties of phlox paniculata are straight, rather strong, lignified by autumn. The root system is fibrous, has a huge number of thin and highly branched roots, the main part of which is located at a depth of 5-20 cm. That is why paniculata phlox is picky about the soil, it should be moist and loose.

Inflorescences in varieties of phlox paniculata have a wide variety of colors, except for yellow shades. Mostly raspberry (warm and cold), red-purple, red-pink, orange-red, purple-red, salmon, carmine, pink, ink-purple, snow-white, white, etc. predominate. Coloring, by the way, can be bicolor, flowers may have shadows, strokes, eyes, rims and other patterns.

Flowering depends only on the variety and lasts 1-1.5 months. The flowers of phlox paniculata fall at different times, respectively, the capsule fruits are formed at different times. Fruit-boxes are three-celled, ripen after, together with the death of the aerial part.
