Tulip Borshchova is a perennial corm plant belonging to the Liliaceae family. In Latin, its name will sound like this:

Tulipa borszczowii … The presented species of tulips got its name in honor of the Russian botanist, specialist in the field of physiology and anatomy Borshchov Ilya Grigorievich, who earned his fame thanks to the creation of a cartographic representation of areas and placed on the map more than 60 plant species. In the wild, the flower culture chooses flat clay surfaces and lifeless spaces of the deserts of Kazakhstan.

Characteristics of culture

Tulip Borshchova is a herbaceous flowering plant that grows no more than 25 centimeters above the ground. On a large dark green peduncle there are fleshy long leaves with slightly corrugated edges in the amount of 3 to 5 pieces. At the top, the stem is adorned with a single, erect, goblet inflorescence, about 6 centimeters high and 5 centimeters in diameter.

The perianth petals have an extensive bottom, curved outward, pointed upward, yellow, orange or scarlet in color with a pronounced brown spot at the base. In the center of the inflorescence is a filamentous bundle of violet-black or yellow-brown anthers and stamens. The fruit has the shape of an elongated triangular box, inside of which there are 200 to 300 black-brown seeds.

The bulb of this plant species is small, oval, about 3 centimeters in diameter, completely covered with strong, leathery, black scales. The rhizome changes annually, at the beginning of spring the old roots die off and after a while they are replaced by young root shoots. The presented flower culture blooms in the third decade of April, unfortunately, this period does not last long, already in May the flowering time comes to an end.

Tulip Borshchova in a personal plot

Tulip Borshchova is a very bright, beautifully flowering undemanding plant, therefore it is in active demand among gardeners, florists and landscape designers. The presented flower culture is in perfect harmony with other plants, and will fit into any place on the garden plot, the main thing is that it is elevated, not swampy and well lit. In the shade, the plant does not die, but it develops very poorly and almost does not bloom.

When choosing a place for tulips, you need to pay special attention to the fact that for planting this flower crop, an area is set aside in which other bulbous plants have not previously grown for at least three years, because the bulbous parasites of predecessors will negatively affect the health of young tubers. After the place is chosen, it is necessary to prepare the soil in advance for planting. Tulip Borshchova, like its relatives, prefers light, fertile, slightly acidic soil, abundantly saturated with useful substances.

To fertilize the soil, you can choose both organic and mineral fertilizers, but it is advisable to refrain from using manure, especially after the plants are planted, because it attracts dangerous insects to the bulbs. After fertilizing, the soil must be loosened 20-30 centimeters deep, and left for a day to settle, after this time, the tubers can be planted.

The bulbs of the presented plant species are best planted in groups, because one flower will be lost among the garden space and will be practically invisible. The most impressive color spot looks from a variety of large colorful tulips, also, if the territory allows, you can apply the technique of landscape designers, that is, distribute the varieties of this plant by shades and create unique and diverse patterns.
