Garden rose (lat. Rosa) Is a flowering plant from the Rosaceae family.
Description
Garden rose most often looks like a highly branching shrub, the height of which in some cases can reach two meters. However, there are also single-growing flowers on rather long stems. This type of rose is equipped with erect root shoots, and its arcuate branches are densely dotted with a huge number of hard crescent thorns. The odd-pinnate leaves sitting on short petioles can boast of an elliptical complex or protozoan shape, and their bases are always rounded. The upper parts of the leaf blades are always naked, shiny and dark green, and their lower sides are painted in lighter shades.
Separate-petalled flowers of a garden rose can be either single or collected in colorful bunches, each of which contains two or three flowers. The concave-jugular receptacles of these flowers are framed along the edges with bizarre sepals, and the number of petals can vary from five to thirty. The flowers boast surprisingly varied colors and a very pleasant smell, and their bloom almost always occurs between May and July.
Where grows
As an ornamental plant, the garden rose is actively cultivated in America and in a huge number of Asian and European countries.
Growing and caring
Garden rose is a very whimsical culture, which means that it needs special attention. The most important thing in growing it is choosing the right place for planting. On poor soils, the normal development of garden roses is definitely not worth expecting - they will feel best on slightly sour medium loams, enriched with humus and all kinds of nutrients. Soils, the percentage of lime in which is high enough, are harmful for garden roses, and heavy clay soils need to be improved by adding various organic substances to them.
Some varieties of roses are also grown in containers, and with the onset of winter, these containers are transferred to warm shelters.
Before you start planting roses, you need to prepare them for planting. Before removing the beautiful flowers from the containers, water them well and keep the soil ball intact until planting. And plants with bare roots should be cut off by about thirty centimeters. In addition, all fruits are removed from them, as well as buds with leaves. And if the stems are wrinkled or have time to dry, they must be immersed in a bucket of water.
Shrub roses with bare roots can be planted either in the spring or in the fall. If the soils are too heavy, then spring planting will be preferable. And the holes for planting are dug in such a way that all the roots are located in the same direction.
With the onset of spring, while the soil is still quite wet, fertilizer should be scattered around all the roses, after which these fertilizers are mixed with the soil with the help of a hoe.
Garden roses also need mulching. It is especially good to carry out this procedure in May or June. And the soil must be periodically loosened with a hoe - this approach will help to cope even with those weeds that are not suppressed during mulching (for example, with creeping wheatgrass). At the same time, it is extremely important not to damage the roots of the roses while loosening, that is, do not deepen the hoe to a depth of more than two or three centimeters.
All roses should be periodically inspected for the presence of wilted buds - if any are found, they must be removed in a timely manner. And with prolonged drought, you need to provide beautiful flowers with regular watering.
