Sneeze-flowered tansy (lat. Tanacetum ptarmiciflorum) - herbaceous perennial plant or shrub of the genus

Tansy (lat. Tanacetum) families

Astral (lat. Asteraceae) … For its delicate silvery leaves the plant received the popular name - "Silver lace bush". Previously, botanists ranked this plant in the genus Chrysanthemum (lat. Chrysanthemum), the plants of which have much in common with plants of the genus Tansy, because both genera belong to the same family Astrovye. But, for some individual features that only true botanists can discern, they nevertheless transferred this species to the Tansy plant genus.

Disappearing view

Sneezing-flowered tansy in the wild grows only in one place on our planet, in the Canary Islands. For its spectacular silvery openwork leaves, combined with the unpretentiousness of the plant to the conditions of life, Sneeze-flowered tansy attracted flower growers all over the world, and therefore today it decorates gardens on many continents, in places where there is a lot of sun, and the soil does not differ in excess of moisture. As for growing in natural conditions, the Sneezel-flowered tansy is included in the lists of endangered plants, and therefore needs human protection.

Description

Sneezing-flowered tansy is a picturesque shrub, the leaves of which have a traditional form for plants of the genus. The many times dissected leaf plate gives the whole bush an openwork-lace picturesque look. The leaf plate and stems of the plant are covered with a thick layer of whitish hairs, under which the green color of the leaves is lost. Leaves and stems acquire a grayish-silver color, transforming the entire plant bush into a spectacular creation of nature.

In the summer, the silvery bush is decorated with inflorescences-baskets, similar to our home-grown Chamomile. The flower has a multi-row wrap of miniature leaves, which protects two types of flowers. Like Chamomile, in the center of the flower are hermaphroditic (bisexual) small tubular yellow flowers, which are surrounded by marginal white petal flowers. Flowering is abundant in favorable conditions and lasts the entire summer period.

Growing conditions

Sneeze-flowered tansy loves places open to the sun and dry soil. Therefore, areas with a warm, dry climate are better suited for it. In its homeland, the Canary Islands, Sneezer-flowered tansy grows in dry pine forests, as well as on rocky mountain slopes.

Usage

Sneezing-flowered tansy is a very spectacular perennial plant, which is in demand by landscape designers in countries with warm climates. In Australia, for example, fifty years ago, no garden was complete without the silvery bushes of the Sneeze-flowered Tansy.

The plant not only decorates the garden space, but also protects other plants and people from annoying harmful insects that do not like the rather pungent aroma emanating from its stems and leaves. Twigs of Sneeze-flowered Tansy are hung on the front door to the house, protecting living quarters from flies.

The juice of the Sneezer-flowered Tansy, like many of its other relatives in the genus Tansy, is toxic, and therefore in large quantities it is dangerous to humans.

Although the chemical composition of the terrestrial parts of the Sneezer-flowered Tansy contains medicinal substances, the plant, as a rule, is not used for healing ailments, since it is not grown in large quantities. But, in critical situations, in the absence of the necessary drugs, the healing abilities of the sneezing-flowered tansy, which are similar to the abilities of other species of the genus, can be fully used, observing a reasonable dosage.
