Common tansy (lat. Tanacetum vulgare) - a herbaceous perennial plant, which is a type species of the genus Tansy (Latin Tanacetum) of the Asteraceae family (Latin Asteraceae). Despite its specific epithet "ordinary", Tansy has healing abilities that are recognized not only by traditional healers, but also by official medicine. Description
Perennial Tansy is based on a woody rhizome, creeping and long. Strong faceted erect stems with a height of half a meter to one and a half meter are born from the rhizome to the surface of the earth. Stems are numerous, with a bare or slightly pubescent surface, branching in the upper part.
On a long stem, there are very picturesque pinnately dissected leaves in the next order. One such leaf is composed of pointed, oblong-lanceolate pairs of leaflets, which can number from five to twelve pairs. The edge of the leaves, as a rule, is decorated with small teeth, which give even more openwork to the green foliage. Leaves located in the lower part of the stem are equipped with petioles, and above the stem they become sessile. The upper surface of the leaf plate is dark green. The glands are located on the underside. Despite the delicate appearance, the leaves are very strong and tough.
The tops of the stems are occupied by dense corymbose inflorescences, collected from the typical plants of the Asterian baskets family. The baskets are composed of tubular small hermaphrodite (bisexual) yellow flowers hiding in the middle of the basket, and female flowers that have chosen the periphery of the basket.
