Delphinium cultural, aka hybrid (lat. Delphinium x cultorum) - one of the largest groups belonging to the genus Delphinium, and includes many forms, hybrids and varieties obtained by crossing different species. The varieties belonging to the cultural delphinium are perhaps the most popular among European and Russian gardeners and florists. And this is not surprising, because they boast a variety of shades, shapes and sizes of flowers, growth and other characteristics.

Characteristics of culture

Cultural delphinium, or hybrid, is represented by plants with a height of 30 cm to 2 m. In the process of obtaining varieties and hybrids belonging to this group, many species were used, including high delphinium (Latin Delphinium elatum) and large-flowered delphinium (Latin Delphinium grandiflorum). The first forms of the group under consideration were characterized by medium-sized plants, above which pyramidal inflorescences flaunted.

Later, semi-double and terry forms were bred, which attracted the attention of many gardeners. Now on the market you can find many varieties and hybrids with large inflorescences, consisting of 50-70 flowers. And, by the way, the size of the flowers varies from 3 to 8 cm. Flowers of some varieties and hybrids are equipped with a dark colored eye. Most of them are presented in blue, purple and violet colors. There are varieties with white, pink and lilac-pink flowers.

Popular groups and varieties

Pacific hybrids (they are also Pacific) - one of the most common groups representing plants, which form large densely leafy bushes up to 2 m in height with dense multi-flowered inflorescences of a pyramidal or conical shape in the process of growth. Among the varieties belonging to this group, the Black Kniht variety should be noted. It is characterized by plants up to 1.5 m high with semi-matt purple flowers reaching 4-6 cm in diameter, collected in cone-shaped inflorescences.

The Blue Bird variety cannot be ignored. It is represented by plants about 1.5 m high with semi-double pale blue flowers up to 6 cm in diameter, equipped with a white eye and collected in long cone-shaped inflorescences. Another variety of the Pacific hybrids group that has gained popularity is the Juinevere variety. It is distinguished by its high growth (up to 2 m) with large semi-double lilac-pink flowers, on which a snow-white eye flaunts. No less interesting is the King Arthur variety. It is a plant up to 1.8 m high with purple semi-double flowers with a diameter of no more than 5 cm.

The group called

Belladonna, also boasts incredibly beautiful varieties. Among them, the most common variety is Volkerfriden. It is characterized by plants up to 1.5 m high with rich blue flowers, collected in dense inflorescences. The Lamartine variety is not inferior to it. Its flowers are dark blue in color, however, they belong to the category of semi-double. Among the varieties with white flowers, it is difficult to ignore the cultivar Casa Blanca. Its difference lies in the presence of yellow eyes on the flowers.

Elatum - no less popular and large group. It includes the Berghimmel variety, which interested gardeners and florists in its rich blue color and the presence of a white eye. By the way, it belongs to tall varieties, because as the plants grow, they reach a mark equal to 2 m. The Malvine variety can boast of high growth. It is loved by many European gardeners for its lilac-blue color and brownish eye. Another rather harmonious variety that belongs to the Elatum group is Lady Belinda. Its flowers are presented in white. But among the varieties with cornflower blue flowers, the Abgesang variety should be noted. An incredibly bright and attractive look that can surprise even the most fastidious grower.
