Care and cultivation of pinnate carnations
For the most optimal development of pinnate carnation, sunny areas are required, on which there is a loose, well-drained, fertile and calcareous soil. Watering the plant needs regular, but waterlogging of the soil should not be allowed in any case. During the period of active growth, mineral fertilizers should be applied once. As for organic fertilizers, the use of humus is permissible in this capacity. Such fertilizers should be applied either at planting, or in the spring as mulch.
After the flowering of the pinnate carnation is over, the bushes should be trimmed or the faded inflorescences should be completely removed. For the winter period of time, plantings with pinnate cloves should be covered. Of course, wintering is permissible without any kind of shelter, but in this case there is a very high probability that the plant will freeze and die. In the same place, without transplanting, the plant can grow up to five years, and after that the decorativeness of the pinnate carnation is lost and then the plant will need to be renewed.
Reproduction of pinnate carnation
In order for your garden to have a lot of pinnate carnations, you will need to reproduce it using cuttings. Pinnate carnations take root extremely easily, so you won't have to wait long for the result. For reproduction of this plant, a period of time should be chosen, starting from about mid-June and ending with the very beginning of July. However, rooting of cuttings is sometimes possible even in winter.
For reproduction in this way, the tops of the pinnate carnation without flower buds, as well as strong main shoots, are used. The main advantage of such reproduction is that exact copies of the mother bush of the variegated carnation are obtained. At the very beginning of summer, it is permissible to sow a pinnate carnation in a flower garden. For growing such carnations, sunny areas are suitable, where there will be sandy soils, very rich in humus. This plant can look most impressive if it is planted along the very edge of the flower garden.
So, to reproduce carnations by means of cuttings, you will need to cut off cuttings, the length of which will be about ten to fifteen centimeters. On the stems below the leaf node, an oblique cut should be made, while the lower leaves are removed, and the top of the cutting itself is noticeably shortened. Cuttings are planted in small pots, which contain a nutritious substrate. After two or even three weeks, the cuttings will root perfectly and then they can be transplanted into more spacious containers. After planting, the soil should be tamped very tightly. It is recommended to put pots with pinnate cloves on a pallet, after which the pots are transferred to bright places, and for wintering the plants should be transferred to rooms that are not able to freeze even in the most severe frosts. It is necessary to water the feathery carnation until next spring, and it is also very important and closely monitored so that the plant does not undergo undesirable attacks from various pests.
