It blooms in solitary, as a rule, pink - purple flowers, the diameter of which does not exceed 3 centimeters, the edges of the corolla have a fringed or jagged shape. The color of the petals can be very diverse from white to maroon, depending on the variety. The fruit is a capsule, opens from above with cloves.
Care
Seeds of Chinese carnation are sown in open ground around mid-July; in the fall, it is advisable to plant seedlings in a permanent place of growth, since the plant tolerates winter colds better, when it has managed to take root and adapt. Sowing earlier allows for a bright and colorful bloom this year. The soil for planting this flower culture should be fertile, moist, light, and well saturated with nutrients.
It is advisable to choose the most sunny place; in the shade, the plant blooms less colorfully and for a short time. If comfortable conditions for growth are created for the Chinese carnation, then feeding it is not required, but in the case of poor flowering or lack thereof, you can periodically feed the soil with organic fertilizers.
Chinese carnation is an absolutely unpretentious and drought-resistant crop, therefore, the main care falls on periodic moderate watering and timely transplantation. It is necessary to water the plant on demand, that is, when the soil has dried out, the carnation does not tolerate an excess of moisture, moreover, it attracts increased attention of all sorts of pests.

Chinese carnation is very susceptible to attack by slugs, especially if there is an excess of moisture in the soil, in order to rid it of this ailment, you need to treat the bush with a 5% solution of metaldehyde.
For this type of plant, the cabbage scoop is dangerous; in the fight against it, trichlorometaphos is used, taken in a proportion of 10 - 20 grams per 10 liters of water.
