Carnation two-color Is a perennial herb from the genus Carnations of the Carnation family, in Latin its name will sound Dianthus bicolor. In nature, this flower culture grows on the slopes and fields in dry thickets of grass and shrubs, is common in the Caucasus mountains and on the territory of the republics of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Two-color carnation is the most common representative of its kind in our country, for the holiday of the Great Victory over Nazi Germany, all flower shop counters are filled with this type of carnation.

Characteristics of culture

Carnation bicolor is a bush with single peduncles about 60 centimeters high. Long, smooth, knotty stem of dark green color is surrounded by paired, pointed, lanceolate leaves in the amount of 4 - 7 pieces. The calyx has a cylindrical shape, about 2.5 centimeters long. The inflorescence is single, lush with many petals, which are painted in red or red-yellow tones.

Reproduction

This flower culture is propagated by seeds, for this they are sown at the end of May in open ground with pre-prepared soil. The sowing depth of seeds directly depends on their size. Large seeds are deepened into the ground by 1, 5 - 2, 5 centimeters, small seeds are not covered, but only pressed against the soil with a plate.

Soil conditions and fertilizers

In order for the seeds of two-color carnation to germinate well, and the flowers to grow in one place without transplanting, it is necessary to properly prepare the earth and soak it with useful substances. If the soil in the area allocated for planting this flower crop is heavy and clayey, then it is advisable to dilute it with drainage, for example, ash, river sand and small pebbles.

Swampy soil in places with a high level of groundwater without preliminary preparation is also not suitable for planting the presented species of flowering plants. In this case, a drainage and ditching device is required. When growing two-color carnations, it is necessary to take into account the fact that it does not tolerate acidic soil, therefore, it is advisable to preliminarily carry out liming.

To obtain a bright and rich flowering of two-color carnations, the soil must be nourished with organic matter, manure is well suited for this, it has a beneficial effect on its chemical state, and also provides plant nutrition. Manure (especially fresh) contains all the necessary useful elements, and as a result of its decomposition, a substance that is easily assimilated by plants, called humus, accumulates in the soil. When using manure, it is necessary to take into account that two-color carnations do not tolerate it well and, moreover, it attracts harmful insects to plants, therefore, only the soil can be fed with manure when the plants are planted in it.

Care

Often, the reason for the uninteresting flowering of two-colored carnations is a lack of water, especially during the period of active growth and development. It is best to water the flower crop in question in the evening or early in the morning (as the soil dries up), while it should be moistened to a depth of 10 - 15 centimeters. After watering, it is advisable to loosen the ground around the bush in order to maintain moisture retention and a favorable regime, since the roots of the plant need regular access of air.

Weeding is another important criterion for caring for this type of plant. Weeds should be removed as soon as they emerge. It is imperative to dig them out by the root, otherwise they will quickly grow back again. Irregular weeding leads to weakening of plants and, as a rule, to weak flowering.
