Alpine aster is part of a family called Asteraceae or Compositae. This herb is a perennial crop. In the soil there is a rhizome, which has a cylindrical shape, this rhizome is oblique, and closer to the top it is branched. Quite a lot of thin and long roots depart from the rhizome.
At the same time, stems rise above the ground, which will be erect and ascending flowering, while on average they reach about ten to twenty five centimeters in height. However, sometimes the height of the alpine aster stem can even reach one and a half meters. These stems are densely lowered by spaced or appressed white hairs.
Alpine aster leaves will be alternate, whole and pubescent. Leaves are both obovate and elongated-lanceolate.
From the rhizome of this plant, rather short and sterile shoots depart, which have rosettes of oblong and whole-edged leaves, the length of which varies between two and ten centimeters. On the stem of the Alpine aster, single inflorescences-baskets develop. Sometimes even two inflorescences appear. In diameter, these baskets are about three to five centimeters. The herbaceous leaves of the Alpine aster wrapper are almost always the same and lanceolate, while these leaves are about eight to nine millimeters long.
On the edge of the inflorescence of this plant are infertile flowers, which are varied in color. Sometimes flowers are bluish-purple, pinkish-purple, purple-lilac, sometimes even pink or just white. As for the number of these flowers, this number fluctuates between twenty and forty. Together with a rather large number of small yellow tubular flowers of both sexes, a kind of large and bright golden so-called "eye" is created in the middle, which is surrounded by very specific "eyelashes". The yellow center and bluish crown create a very beautiful plant.
The fruits of the alpine aster are hairy and flat, they are peculiar conical achenes, which have white hairs tuft. Flowering of this plant begins in July and lasts until August. This plant is considered extremely attractive and serves as an amazing decoration for a variety of rocks and lawns.
In nature, alpine aster is found in the Caucasus, in the South Urals, in the Amur region, as well as in the southern part of Western Siberia and Ukraine. Sometimes this plant can be found in natural conditions also in the Carpathians, as well as in the Alps.
The healing properties of the alpine aster
This plant is a very healing crop. In this case, alpine aster herb is most often used for medicinal purposes. This category includes the stems of the plant, as well as the leaves and flowers. Such valuable medicinal properties are explained by the presence of a rather large number of saponins in all parts of the alpine aster. In addition, it is noteworthy that the rhizomes of this plant contain an impressive amount of coumarins and saponins, but flavonoids were also found in the grass.
At the same time, with regard to traditional medicine, a decoction made from herbs and alpine aster inflorescences is used here. Such a decoction is used to treat tuberculous diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, as well as scrofula and eczema. In addition, such a decoction is also used for coughs, joint aches and tuberculous lymphadenitis. It is noteworthy that in the countries of Southeast Asia, alpine aster is also considered an antipyretic agent. Also, sometimes the plant finds itself also used in homeopathy.
