Arnebia euchromic (lat. Arnebia euchroma) - a herbaceous spectacular plant of the genus Arnebia (Latin Arnebia), belonging to the Borage family (Latin Boraginaceae). Arnebia euchromic is a multifunctional plant that will decorate a flower garden in a summer cottage with its densely pubescent bushes with beautiful purple flowers, will give a bright purple dye, or will help to overcome pathogenic microbes with its healing abilities, supporting human vitality.
What's in your name
The Latin name of the genus is based on the Arabic name of a similar plant, which compares the bristling pubescence of all aerial parts of Arnebia with a fluffy rabbit, giving the plant the name "Arneb". Translated from Arabic into Russian, it sounds like "rabbit". Hence the Latin name of the genus of plants - "Arnebia" is taken.
The specific Latin epithet "euchroma" has a very complex scientific name associated with the structure of a gene, be it a human or a plant gene. But, in principle, you can translate it into Russian by the word "colorful" for the juicy colors of its tubular-bell-shaped flowers. In addition to the plant "Arnebia euchroma", a huge colorful beetle - "Euchroma gigantea", translated into Russian is interpreted as "Colorful giant". The beetle has an alternative name - "Precious beetle", which can be easily duplicated for the colorful Arnebia, calling her "Precious Arnebia". After all, the color of the plant is very similar to the attractive elytra of the beetle, green with a reddish or purple tint.
Description
Thick (up to 2 cm in diameter) roots of Arnebia colorful not only extract nutrients from the soil, but also serve as a guarantor of the plant's long-term life, and also accumulate purple dye.
Erect, white or pale yellow, hairy stems 15 to 40 centimeters high, branched at the top.
Leaves are sessile, half-pressed, hairy. Linear-lanceolate or linear basal leaves are 7 to 20 centimeters long and 0.5 to 1.5 centimeters wide, with a short pointed tip and a sheath-like base. Stem leaves, which have the same shape as the basal ones, are inferior in size to them and do not have a sheath-like base.
The inflorescence, a complex umbrella, is formed by numerous tubular-bell-shaped flowers with a picturesque dark purple corolla, which sometimes has pale yellow or purple-red shades. The inflorescences are so spectacular that they resemble a scattering of precious stones against the background of hairy decorative and graceful leaves.
The fruit is small black-brown (3.5 x 3 mm) nuts, broadly ovoid, with a small number of tubercles on the surface.
Usage
The spectacular bloom of colorful Arnebia could not fail to attract the attention of gardeners. The ability to grow on rocky soil adds to the plant's popularity when it comes to rocky gardens.
The roots of Arnebia colorful are a source of purple and red dyes, which have long been used by people for dyeing silk, wool, and also for cosmetic purposes.
And only later were the healing abilities of Arnebia discovered, which are used in the treatment of such ailments as: sore joints; various lesions of the human skin (burns, wounds); to suppress inflammatory processes in the body; in duels with pathogenic bacteria and fungi.
Arnebia euchroma is one of the plants from which the chicanine substance is obtained. Shikonin esters are the basis of the Shikonin Oil cosmetic product, the effectiveness of which has been confirmed by clinical trials. It is used to treat herpes, streptoderma, burns and wounds.

Unpretentiousness to the conditions of life allows Arnebia to grow up in the most disadvantaged places on the planet.
