Adonis vernalis is a perennial herb, endowed with a short and thick rhizome, as well as straight furrowed bare and unbranched leafy stems. The height of such stems will be about forty to fifty centimeters. The leaves of this plant are alternate, once or twice-finger-dissected, while the segments of such leaves will be linear, narrow and bare. The length of such segments will be about one to two centimeters, and their width will be equal to one millimeter.

The flowers of this plant are single and rather large, they will be light yellow in color, such flowers are located at the very tops of the shoots. The fruits of spring adonis will be spherical-obovate and wrinkled in shape, they are endowed with hook-shaped bent columns, which in turn will be pressed against the nut.

Description of the healing properties of spring adonis

For medicinal purposes, it is recommended to use the herb of this plant, which should be harvested during the period when the fruits are ripening. The cut grass should be spread out on a canvas and then dried, while remembering that the grass should also be mixed frequently.

It should be noted that this plant contains a rather impressive amount of individual cardiac glycosides, the largest amount of which will be contained in green fruits and leaves. At the same time, a large pharmacological activity of glycosides is noted in the phases of fruiting and flowering of spring adonis. It is noteworthy that glycosides will accumulate in the rhizome of this plant only at the very end of the growing season.

Preparations based on this plant should be classified as a group of so-called cardiac glycosides. Such drugs can slow down the heart rate, as well as increase systole and lengthen diastole, while also increasing the stroke volume of the heart. In addition, such drugs will also moderately inhibit intracardiac conduction. It is worth noting that in terms of the duration of their effect, such drugs will be inferior to foxglove. However, when such drugs are used in therapeutic doses, the risk of cumulation will be excluded, for this reason, such drugs are used on an outpatient basis. Among other things, preparations based on this plant will also calm the central nervous system, and also reduce the excitability of the motor centers and dilate the coronary vessels.

In addition, spring adonis preparations are used for vegetative dystonia, heart neurosis, infectious diseases, which will proceed with symptoms of weakening of cardiac activity.
