This article contains useful information on how to properly care for turkeys, keep them, feed them

Often, people who keep chickens in their plots think about purchasing a bird such as a turkey. Of course, chicken is chicken, but turkey meat is more valuable, and the poultry is two to three times larger in size. The turkey is the largest representative of poultry. An adult turkey weighs up to 20 kg, there are also heavier specimens. The rate of maturation of the turkey exceeds that of chickens, ducks and geese. Keeping poultry is not difficult, but the methods are quite different from the methods of keeping, for example, chickens. If you have a summer cottage, a personal plot with a house, then for sure there are outbuildings in the form of a barn (poultry house) where you can keep your turkeys. The poultry house must be warm, in winter the temperature in it must not fall below 10 degrees above zero. Make sure it is not blown through by winds and drafts. If you want the birds to fly well, brighten the house with additional fluorescent lights. The longer the daylight hours in the house, the better and the faster the turkey poults will mature. Ventilate the room, turkeys cannot tolerate strong gas pollution in the poultry house. Clean the room more often and change the floor covering, it should be abundant, dry, and free of mold. Do not place turkeys in the same room with other poultry, turkeys often contract their diseases. It is better to keep them in a separate poultry house.

In order for turkeys to start breeding, they should be raised to the age of one year. Clutch of eggs begins in March and ends by October. The eggs ripen for about 28 days. Up to 90 eggs can be obtained from a turkey per year. The weight of one egg is about 85-90 grams. The hatched turkey poults are removed from the hen and placed in a box or box with abundant bedding of hay and sawdust. It is very important during this period to correctly approach the content of chicks. Do not forget to instill them, this is an important aspect of the content. If you decide to buy turkey poults, then take a two-week one, they are already stronger and more vaccinated. Turkey poults should be active, activity is an indicator of health. At two weeks of age, the chicks are seated, depending on gender: turkeys in one box, turkeys in another. Until the age of two weeks of chicks, maintain the temperature in their room at least 36 degrees, then, on the following days, it is necessary to lower it by a degree, so that by the 30th day in the poultry house the temperature is at least 20 degrees. At the age of puberty (2-3 months), drafts are dangerous, any draft can cause irreparable harm to the turkey poultry population.

It is recommended to feed with whole grain, table waste, flour mixture (mash), herbs from the garden, green onion feathers are especially useful, they contain a huge amount of trace elements necessary for this bird. In cold weather, add beets, carrots, cabbage. Do not forget about purchased vitamins. Add them to your feed and you will have healthy birds. Young animals are fed 7-8 times a day, an adult bird up to 4 times a day. An adult bird loves to walk in the fresh air. After a difficult period of puberty (2-3 months), they can be released outside for almost the whole day.
