Birds always appreciate taking care of them, and many people, knowing perfectly well how birds need this care, especially in winter, are happy to feed the birds that remain to winter. There is no need to buy feeders - after all, they are quite easy to build with your own hands, and from the improvised means available to literally everyone: the most ordinary plastic bottles will always serve as such an improvised means
Regular feeder
Elementary model. Absolutely any plastic bottle (1 - 3 liters) will be suitable for its construction.
With pointed scissors (you can also use a clerical knife), two arched holes are cut opposite each other (rectangular and round shapes are also welcome), it is only important to leave the jumper when cutting out - they should be at least 1.5 cm wide.
If suddenly the edges of the holes obtained turned out to be very sharp, they can be pasted over in several layers with electrical tape (as an option, an adhesive plaster is also suitable) - thanks to this solution, it will become much more convenient for birds to hold onto the edges. A couple of holes made in the lower part of the bottle will not be superfluous for the convenience of the birds - if you insert a twig into them, you get a very convenient and peculiar roost, which in turn will greatly delight the birds.
The feeder for one of the jumpers is attached to the tree trunk (tied with twine or metal wire, or glued with tape, tape). If you wish, you can build a suspended feeder - when making a suspended version, a hole should be made in the bottle cap, and then the ends of the rope (about 15 - 20 cm long) should be pulled into the hole. Further, these ends must be tied, making a free loop out of them for hanging, after which the lid is put on the bottle again, and the feeder itself is hoisted onto the branch by the formed loop. The indisputable advantage of these feeders is that the feed in them is always easy to change - you just need to remove the feeder from the loop or open the lid, add food to the feeder, and then return the "canteen" for the birds to its place.
Plastic bottle feeder with spoons
Perpendicular to each other, first you should make two pairs of through holes in the bottle, and then insert two small spoons into the holes obtained (they should be wooden). Near each scoop of the spoon, the holes must be slightly widened upward - this is done in order to ensure that the birds can freely reach the feed with their beaks, and, accordingly, so that all the efforts spent on making the feeder are not in vain. Then the trough is filled to the brim with food, and the already filled trough is hung from the lid.
The mechanism of action of such a peculiar feeder is extremely simple: sitting on a spoon, the birds get food for themselves with their beak. The spilling grains do not disappear either - they fall into the scoop. For the manufacture of larger feeders, five-liter bottles can be taken as a basis, and bottles of different colors will be good helpers for decoration, as well as for giving the feeders a more original look.
Automatic (or self-filling) bird feeder
These feeders are extremely convenient because when birds eat feed, food is independently added to the feeder, and therefore there is no need to constantly run out into the yard and add food. For the construction of this feeder, you need to take 2 completely identical plastic bottles of 1, 5 - 3 liters in volume (the larger they are, the more spacious the feeder itself will come out). One bottle must be cut in a circle in its upper part (by one third), and so-called window holes should be cut out closer to its bottom. It is possible to prepare a corresponding drawing on the container in advance, for example, using a marker for this. The size of the resulting windows, as well as their shape, can be any, the most important condition is that the birds should easily fit in them. The most suitable option is, as a rule, 2 - 3 holes 5 - 7 cm wide. And in the bottom of the bottle, several holes should be made to get rid of the water that gets into the feeder during the thaw. Two holes (opposite each other), through which a rope or ribbon is then pulled, should be pierced in the upper part of the bottle - it is for this rope or ribbon that the feeder is subsequently hung on a branch.
The second one intended for the manufacture of an auto-feeder - the container must remain intact. Using a funnel, after unscrewing the cap, the bottle is almost half filled with food, and then placed in the first bottle (the one that was previously cut off). As a result of these manipulations, the neck of the second bottle should not reach the bottom of the first by about 0.5 cm. Also, at the bottle into which the food is poured, you can not unscrew the cork at all, but simply cut a number of small holes.
