How nice it is to receive a bouquet of flowers as a gift. But often, unfortunately, freshly cut flowers wither quickly. In this article, we will provide several practical and effective ways to help extend the life of a flower arrangement
Choice of colors
In order for fresh flowers to please the eye for as long as possible, you need to choose them correctly. In floristic shops, to preserve the appearance of expired products, they use special means to maintain the presentation. But, alas, flowers processed in this way will not stand in a vase for a long time, no matter what you do with them. Therefore, try to choose not pre-assembled bouquets decorated with glitter, beads, foil, but single flowers from the refrigerator. If you decide to buy an assembled bouquet, pay attention to the cut of the stems, they must be light green, and the leaves must be fresh. Although amateur florists may have mistakes when choosing a bouquet, experienced sellers know many secrets of giving freshness to a flower product.
The ideal option, in which the flowers will really stand for a long time, are flowers cut early in the morning in your own garden.
Rules for preserving the freshness of flowers
Premature wilting of flowers is associated with the development of putrefactive bacteria and fungi that clog the vessels of the stems. Therefore, it is important to prevent this negative moment.
1. If you buy flowers in winter, then when you come home, do not rush to put them in a container of water. Place the flowers in a cool place to acclimate for one hour.
2. For cutting flowers in the summer cottage or in the garden, choose the morning time. Flowers cut in the morning are much more viable, as they are saturated with additional moisture at night.
3. Free the flowers from the packaging, which is often corrugated paper or film, fresh flowers are beautiful by themselves, without decorations.
4. For better saturation with moisture, the leaves are cut from the lower part of the stem at the water level, if it is a rose, then thorns are also removed. This eliminates the decay process.
5. To preserve freshness and flower majesty, cut each stem of the bouquet obliquely to increase the suction surface, using only a sharp knife. Cut the stems in cold water so that air does not enter the cut and the vessels are not clogged.
6. Some flowers have a hard stem with dense wood, roses, lilacs, chrysanthemums, for example. Therefore, for better water penetration into the plant, split the stem a couple of cm or crush it with a hammer.
7. When pruning the stems, milky juice may be released, to prevent this, immerse the ends of the stems in boiling water for two seconds.
8. The ideal condition for prolonging flower life is clean and fresh water, which is recommended to be changed daily.
9. Water for flowers should be settled or boiled, preferably at room temperature in winter or slightly lower in summer. If the water is hard, soften it with a spoonful of vinegar or citric acid.
10. It is advisable to add nutrients to the water; this role can be played by a sugar cube, an aspirin tablet, a teaspoon of salt, borax, alcohol or vodka per liter of liquid.
11. Spraying with cool water from a spray bottle will help to refresh the bouquet, just try not to get water on the buds.
12. To get rid of internal plaque on the walls of the vase, it must be cleaned with a soda solution. When changing the water, do not forget to rinse the stems of the plant as well.
13. Never place fruits next to a flower vase, this will contribute to their early wilting.
14. Not all flowers favor each other. Always place lilies of the valley, carnations, daffodils, primroses, roses of contrasting colors, tulips, lilies in separate vases
15. The vase with the bouquet is best placed in a cool room so that the flowers are not exposed to direct sunlight.
16. For the night for flowers, you can make a "wet cap". Transfer the plants from the vase to a bucket of water by covering with a damp towel or gauze, the ends of which are dipped in the water.
Carefully take care of the cut flowers as they continue to breathe and grow, even though they are deprived of root nutrition. Follow the above rules and your bouquet will retain its original appearance for a long time.
