They differ from each other in the color of foliage and inflorescences, the shape of the bush, height, and growth rates. The beginning of the way

Initially, cultural representatives were closer to natural forms, with a height of 1, 5-2, 5 meters. Small mutations have been observed among the wild representatives. Sometimes a single branch was painted in a different color. It was cut off, propagated by cuttings. The collected seeds were sown in the beds, observing the young growth. From the total, specimens with interesting characteristics were selected. As a result of the painstaking work of scientists, new varieties appeared.

High Representatives

Harlequin. The maximum growth is 1.5 m, the crown is spreading, rounded with strong branching. Faceted shoots are dark brown. Single thorns. Leaves 3 cm long, ovoid, graceful with a marbled pattern. Pink, white, grayish specks and strokes stand out against the burgundy background. Yellow-red flowers bloom in the 3rd decade of May. The fruits ripen in September - October. They sit tightly on the branches all winter. Differs in increased resistance to harmful factors, slow growth, frost resistance. In snowless winters, the frozen branches quickly grow back. Loves sunny places.

Orange Rocket. The height of an adult specimen is 1.4 m. The columnar dense crown grows slowly. Faceted branches, orange with single thorns. Leaves are medium-sized, orange-red, ovoid with a slight pinkishness, turning scarlet in autumn. Yellow inflorescences with an outer reddish tinge open at the end of May, are arranged in brushes along the entire stem. Scarlet bunches of berries ripen in late August - early September. Decorate branches in winter. It is frost-resistant, resistant to pests and diseases.

Golden Ring. Released in 1950. The slew rate is average. At the age of ten it reaches a maximum size of 1.5 m. Widely spreading burgundy, faceted branches with single thorns create a dense, rounded structure. Dark purple large leaves with a yellow edging 4 cm long become deep red in autumn. The rim around the plate appears in the middle of the season. Inflorescences are reddish on the outside, yellow on the inside, open at the end of May. Berries of a pink-red hue reach full ripeness in early October. In winter they hang on branches for a long time, decorating the garden. Possesses resistance to harmful factors, good frost resistance, drought resistance. Loves light, put up with light partial shade.

Helmond Pillar. The columnar form of the shrub reaches a height of 1.5 m, with a crown diameter of 0.6 m. Differs in slow growth, reddish shoots. During the season, the color of the leaves changes from pinkish-reddish to purple-brown. In autumn, a purple-red hue prevails. In the heat they turn slightly green. Bright yellow buds in May effectively stand out against a dark background of rounded, tapering to the base of the leaf plates. The berries ripen in September. Possesses good frost resistance, tolerates air pollution, short-term drought.

Green Ornament. The upright crown with fleshy thick shoots reaches a height of 1.5 m. New slow-growing growths are decorated with red or yellowish tripartite spines. The chameleon variety during the season changes the color of the leaves from reddish-brown to greenish-yellow, turning into an orange-brown hue in autumn. The buds bloom in early summer, yellowish on the inside, reddish on the outside. They "scatter" along the branches in groups or one by one. Fruits ripen at the end of September. A light-loving plant, it is easy to put up with an openwork penumbra. It is frost-resistant, withstands urban living conditions.
