Some owners of dogs, cats and other pets believe that their pets are instinctively able to distinguish between healthy foods or edible plants from harmful ones. If this were so, then our four-legged friends would not end up in veterinary clinics with such a serious diagnosis as poisoning. After such a blow to health, it can be very difficult to literally put the animal on its feet. And often the reason for this state of the pet is the person's ignorance of the fact that in his apartment there is a poison that is deadly for his cat

Cats' interest in plants

Although cats are inherently predators, that is, carnivores, they have a need to chew on the juicy green grass. A caring owner should anticipate this need and purchase a special herbal mixture from the pet store to grow it for the mustache on the windowsill in a small pallet.

Ordinary grass can be harvested in the field, but then there is no certainty about the purity of the product or the absence of chemical treatment. Cats happily gnaw sprouted oats - its greens not only help to induce an emetic effect in order to get rid of lumps of licked wool, but also enrich the animal's body with useful vitamins.

Neglecting this need of the animal, the owner puts his four-legged friend in a difficult position, and he himself begins to look for ways to cleanse the body. They gnaw a broom, chew cellophane, and also gnaw houseplants. From the outside, this may seem like a cute prank, but often this behavior leads to the most unpleasant consequences for the pet.

Move the pots away

The presence of both feline and indoor plants in the house already carries a potential danger to both some and others. If a cat has a playful, playful character, is interested in birds fluttering outside the window, and pots will stand on the way to its prey - they will inevitably fall on the floor during the hunt of a predator. We must not forget about the passion of cats to rummage in the ground, and sometimes leave a surprise under the flower. Therefore, it is advisable not to place plants on windowsills, but to place them outside the reach of fluffy paws and sharp claws.

It happens that cat pranks turn into undermined health of the animal itself. If you have cacti, thorny agaves or other flowers with sharp thorns in your house, the curious nature of the cat will result in punctured paws or even wounds in the mouth. Such injuries take a very long time to heal and cause a lot of inconvenience, although these wounds are small.

Poisonous plants

Some houseplants can poison your cat. Poisoning may be indicated not only by vomiting, lethargy of the animal, but also by other signs. The cat can meow louder than usual for a long time, refuse to eat, hide, stop going to the toilet. In severe cases, the animal lies in a layer or, when moving, pulls its hind legs, the pupils are greatly dilated, regardless of the lighting.

Several pieces of the most common indoor plants can lead to this state. These include amaryllidaceae, nightshade, euphorbia. These are hippeastrum, clivia, poinsettia, euphorbia, hemantus. By the way, they are dangerous not only for animals, but also for humans, therefore, after processing these flowers, it is imperative to wash your hands with soap and water. Among other things, the danger is the juice of such popular indoor plants as dieffenbachia, alocasia, anthurium, caladium, monstera, spathiphyllum, zamioculcas. Irritation of the mucous membrane is caused by ivy, sheffler, primrose, cyclamen.

It is necessary to protect from each other not only cats and indoor plants, but also vases with garden flowers. A curious animal will definitely want to sniff a new object, and possibly taste flowers for a tooth. Poisoning can be caused by tulips, lilies, hyacinths, daffodils, gypsophila.
