Consider the options for making cages for an apartment and a summer residence for 10, 20, 50 heads. Let's talk about materials, about the device of the receiver for eggs, about the rules for placing drinkers and feeders
Basic parameters and basic foundations of a quail cage
Deciding to make a cage, each poultry farmer is based on the number of livestock and the characteristics of the content. The main condition for all cells is ventilation in order to avoid the development of mold and dampness, therefore it is preferable to take a metal mesh. Can be combined with plywood, plastic, wood. Get to know the data everyone will need.
1. One individual requires 120-140 cm2 of floor. For a chicken (up to 3 weeks) - 50 cm2, for young animals - 90.
2. It is advisable not to plant more than 30 quails in one cage. This design is maintained in dimensions of 100x40 cm.
3. Fattening for meat, increasing egg production - the area is increasing. For each bird we add 5 cm.
4. In any case, a certain height is observed: the back wall is always less - 20 cm, the front wall 25.
5. The collector should have side walls and protrude 8-10 cm. The mesh is large enough to hold the eggs. Fastened at an angle of 8-10 °.
6. The floor must be calculated so that the legs do not fall through, the frequency of the mesh is 12x12 mm, with a wire thickness of 0.9-2 mm.
7. The front wall acts as a door.
8. Feeder and drinker - outside the cage.
Making a cage from a grid
There are no difficulties with arranging a place for birds. To keep quails in the country or in a city apartment, a cage can be made in a few hours. On the market, this option will be offered to you at a price of 2 thousand rubles. Doing it yourself, you only need to buy a galvanized mesh, build the rest from the existing waste / residues of building material.
Cage for 10 quails
The optimal size for quail life, weight gain and egg laying is 25x60 cm or 35x75. Highlights: frame, door, egg collection tray, drinker / feeder, droppings reservoir.
To create a frame, you can take the available material: galvanized, metal, timber. For the walls there is an iron mesh, the cells are selected so that the bird cannot crawl through. The floor is also created from a small chain-link, it is always mounted at an angle to the drinker (7-8 degrees). This is the condition for the eggs to roll towards the receiving container. A litter tray is also required. It can be constructed from a sheet of iron.
Large livestock cages
For large-scale breeding, it is desirable to save space, therefore the cells are placed in a battery-tier way - one above the other. In this case, a uniform size is maintained during manufacture. The first stand can be 70 cm from the floor. The number of storeys can be up to 4-5 tiers. The cells are fixed between themselves with wire.
The cage for 20 quails has other parameters: 45x45 or 50x35; for 30 heads - 65x75. For 40 quails, the structure has two compartments, designed to accommodate 20 individuals in each. For 50 quails, the size must correspond to 105x85; for 1000 - 4 tiers of cages, in size for 20 heads.
Cage accessories
Each cage, regardless of size, is equipped with a drinker, a feeder, which will be located outside. They are made from any plastic container with a dense base. The feeder is fixed to the front wall, the drinker from the end / side. For water supply, a plastic bottle is fitted above the cage / on the side and is connected to the drinking bowl using a thin hose.
Work process
For a wooden frame, prepare 4 bars of 30 and 4 50 cm each, a thickness of 2.5 cm is enough, we fix it with self-tapping screws. If you make them of iron corners, then you weld, or use bolts. The mesh is attached to the tree with a stapler, to the metal - with wire. Release the floor 15 cm in front, and bend the edge to hold the egg so that they do not fall out, create plugs on the sides.
In the front of the floor, as a result of the inclined arrangement, a gap of 3 cm should appear, it is needed to roll the eggs into the egg receptacle. The size of the door is arbitrary: it should allow you to reach your hand freely.
Cage of boxes
The best option for beginner re-breeders is a box. Reduces work to a minimum, since you do not need to make a frame and calculate dimensions. For work, you need two boxes of the same perimeter. One is 17 cm high, the second can be small (from berries), it will serve as a tray. Remove the legs / corners and connect both containers with wire. Cut through the door in the upper plane.
If the cells are too small, we expand them to the size of the bird's head - this is important for feeding. We fix the drinking bowl and the feeder. All this is made from plastic bottles. As a result, 9-10 laying hens can be kept in such a 30x40 "cage".
