Black spots on the leaves of roses - what to do?

Growing roses is extremely exciting, but at the same time very troublesome. In addition to the fact that many varieties of roses are very capricious and demanding to care for, these beautiful flowers are quite often affected by a wide variety of diseases. Such a dangerous and destructive ailment for roses as spotting is no exception. So, if unsightly black spots suddenly appeared on the leaves of roses, it's time to start a serious fight against the ill-fated misfortune

How to prevent spotting?

It is much easier to prevent any disease than to try to cure it with all your might. This means that timely preventive measures against spotting will give the best effect! What should be done in order to avoid a dangerous illness, and what should not be done?

One of the most important conditions is to correctly select a site for planting beautiful roses: in no case should you plant them in too thickened or darkened areas. The root area must be weeded regularly, and damaged stems, leaves and buds must be promptly removed and burned as far as possible from the rose bushes themselves. Systematic pruning of the stems will not be superfluous - regular pruning, correctly carried out, contributes to a significant increase in the resistance of roses! And, of course, all instruments used for flower care must be treated with effective disinfectants as often as possible. In addition, plants need to be periodically treated with special protective preparations. Systematic spraying of rose bushes with infusions of horsetail or mullein, as well as decoctions of tobacco or garlic, will also be beneficial, and in rainy periods it is very useful to sprinkle the soil around the plants with ash. And some summer residents plant garlic around roses - this vegetable, amazing in every respect, is endowed with the ability to prevent a wide variety of fungal ailments!

It does not hurt to know that there are varieties of roses that are resistant to black spot, and there are varieties that have a genetic predisposition to this ailment. Of course, when choosing such varieties, the risk of infection increases significantly.

How to Treat Dangerous Stains?

Specialty stores offer a truly incredible amount of all kinds of drugs designed to fight such a dangerous ailment as spotting. It is especially good to purchase several funds at once and combine them - in this case, the effectiveness of the impact will increase markedly. Ideally, drugs to combat the ill-fated misfortune should include mancozeb and triazole. And it is they that are recommended to alternate: for example, the first week to spray pink bushes with products containing mancoceb ("Profit", "Gold", etc.), and next week to carry out treatments with preparations containing triazole ("Skor", "Topaz" and etc.).

The treatments are best done in the evenings, so that there are no dew drops on the leaves, and just before the procedure, it is necessary to thoroughly water each plant at the root. And after the unsightly spots have completely disappeared from the leaves, you still should not lose your vigilance - the flowers will need to be regularly examined for the appearance of new spots. If the symptoms of a dangerous disease appear again, all damaged areas will have to be removed and burned.

Proper care of roses

If you properly care for rose bushes, the risk of spotting will also be reduced significantly. And one of the most important care measures, as mentioned above, is pruning. They must certainly be regular - this will help strengthen the immunity of roses to various fungal ailments. If there are already black spots on the leaves, then the shoots are usually cut off at the level of the second or third bud from the base, after which the pink bushes are sprayed with chemicals such as Cumulus, Vectra or Copper Oxychloride.

It is important to try to remove all dried, old and weakened branches in a timely manner - they are usually the main target for a dangerous ailment. And in the fall and with the onset of spring, it will not hurt to carry out thorough processing of the stems with Bordeaux liquid and copper sulfate. Damaged, shriveled and fallen leaves are also collected and burned without fail - if this is not done, the fungus will overwinter quite safely, and then, in the spring, it will begin to attack healthy rose bushes.

Throughout the growing season, roses need unhindered access to fresh air, so no other crops need to be planted in the immediate vicinity of them. Prolonged exposure to moisture on the leaves is also not encouraged. The weeds growing around it must be constantly weeded, and the surrounding area must be systematically dug up, at the same time introducing high-quality fungicides into the soil. And the spread of spotting is largely facilitated by high humidity and too sharp temperature drops, so it does not hurt to control these moments. If you adopt these simple rules, the likelihood of encountering spotting will significantly decrease, and beautiful rose bushes will delight you with their magnificent flowering for a long time!
