Iron and copper preparations are very different and are used for different purposes. You need to know which drug to choose for work, and in what proportions to use. Let's talk about the properties of copper and iron sulfate, rationality and rules of use
Bivalent metals, sulfate crystalline hydrates are called vitriol. This group includes 9 types (zinc, vanadium, lead, etc.). In agriculture, only two are used: copper and iron. They are formed from different chemical elements and act in different ways.
Gardeners and gardeners need to know the properties of copper and iron sulfate, and apply them wisely and carefully. Large concentrations are dangerous for plants and humans.
Properties and uses of ferrous sulfate
Iron is a vital element in many plants. Especially fruit trees, grapes, strawberries, fruit bushes (currants, gooseberries, raspberries) need it. Iron deficiency reduces immunity, leads to partial or complete drying of the crown of the tree, to the spread of infections and diseases. It manifests itself in a change in the color of the leaf, in premature leaf fall, affects the quality of fruits, yield.
Iron sulfate, called "iron vitriol", is produced in the form of greenish-turquoise crystals, which contain 48-53% iron. Ferrous sulfate is popular for fighting
• with pests, • fungal spores, • bacteria.
It is used as spraying, sometimes applied to the soil. Foliar application is carried out
• in autumn, after dropping foliage, with a concentrated composition (500 g + 10 l);
• in the spring before bud break (300-500 g + 10 l);
• for flowers, ornamental plants, in case of damage to roses by aphids, a 0.3% solution is prepared (1 tsp + 10 l);
• spraying on the leaf: fungal infections on trees, vineyards - 30-50 g + 10 l, on berry bushes (after harvest) 25-30 g + 10 l.
The solution is effective against damage to wood tissue (black cancer), with scab, powdery mildew, gray and fruit rot. For introduction into the soil and in the fight against chlorosis, a weak solution of 1-1.5% (100-150 g + 10 l) is made. Highly concentrated (30%) - for getting rid of tree mosses, lichens. As a microfertilizer, it is introduced in the fall along with compost for digging. For 3 buckets of organic matter - 100 g of granules.
Properties and uses of copper sulfate
Many plants suffer from a lack of copper, fruit trees (plums, pears, apple trees) are especially sensitive. Copper sulfate is often called copper sulfate or copper sulfate. It is sold in the form of bluish granules, which contain about 24% copper.
The main action of copper:
• enhances immunity;
• participates in the redox process;
• activates nitrogen-carbohydrate metabolism;
• has antifungal, antiseptic effect;
• increases the yield and quality of the crop.
Copper sulfate solves many problems, is used against
• coccomycosis;
• scab;
• phylostictosis;
• white, brown spots;
• curliness;
• clotterosporium disease;
• rot;
• powdery mildew;
• fungal formations;
• moniliosis;
• lichens, mosses on trunks.
Copper sulfate is used to combat leaf-sucking pests, to disinfect saw cuts, tree cuts, and is applied as top dressing. When doses are abused, copper can burn leaves, slow down plant growth, and disrupt biological balance.
Spraying is a less safe method; it can be carried out 3-4 times a year. The solution is prepared at the rate of 1 tsp. + 15 l. During the dormant period, when the trees are without foliage (autumn, spring), the concentration of copper can be increased to 300 g + 10 liters. Spring spraying takes place in March, before the buds swell, the temperature is not lower than + 3 … + 4.
Disinfection of the soil is done with a 3-5% solution (300-500 g + 10 l), using a sprayer and further digging. Copper processing can be carried out simultaneously with the introduction of humus 1 time in 3-5 years. The same concentration is used to protect wooden buildings from mold and mildew.
Copper sulfate, in contrast to iron sulfate, is more toxic; in the work, the dosages indicated in the instructions cannot be exceeded.
Variants of using vitriol in the country
1. Whitewashing trees
Vitriol added to whitewash solves many problems. Copper sulfate is intended to protect against fungal diseases, iron sulfate - stops the growth of lichens.
2. Decorative purposes
Multi-colored wood chips are used to decorate the landscape and flower beds. Vitriol can be painted: copper gives shades of blue, blue, ferrous sulfate - red. In strong concentration, ferrous sulfate gives a brown, black color.
3. Processing the greenhouse
To disinfect a greenhouse, it is better to take copper sulfate. The use of ferrous sulfate provokes the formation of oxide, all parts will be covered with rust.
