About the benefits of coffee grounds and coffee for the garden

Both coffee grounds and coffee are rich in potassium, magnesium and nitrogen. If you periodically add coffee grounds to the soil, it will become better amenable to loosening and will be more breathable.

In addition, the rich coffee aroma can repel some species of ants and many other garden pests (fruit flies, etc.). And we also managed to find out that the smell of this wonderful drink is endowed with the ability to attract earthworms.

How to fertilize your garden and vegetable garden with coffee?

You can use coffee in liquid form or use the grounds extracted from this drink. When choosing the first option, it is important to know that plants can be watered not only with pure coffee, but also with a drink right from the thick inside.

And the prepared in advance (how to prepare it, described below) is introduced into the soil before planting various crops (at the stage of soil preparation). In addition, when planting some plants (tomatoes, for example), it is not forbidden to add coffee grounds directly to the holes. And in order to release all kinds of nutrients from it (including nitrogen), it is important not to forget to water the soil well. Leftover coffee is also useful for composting. By the way, coffee grounds can easily be compared to cut grass in terms of efficiency!

If you use untreated coffee grounds, it can easily lead to rapid mold formation.

How to prepare coffee grounds?

Of course, it will be extremely difficult to find the amount of coffee grounds necessary for dressing at once. In this regard, it is gradually harvested throughout the winter. The grounds remaining after brewing coffee are thoroughly dried in the air (spread out on a table on clean paper), and then transferred to jars. It is in this form that the coffee grounds are stored until the onset of the summer season.

It's important to know

Since coffee beans are quite acidic, this drink is able to slightly increase the acidity of the soil. And when brewing coffee, the acid goes mainly into the drink itself, therefore, if you use coffee grounds, then it will practically not affect the acidity of the soil. This feature makes it possible to recommend the use of liquid coffee only for sour-loving crops.

Despite the fact that both coffee grounds and coffee are very useful, they still cannot boast of the presence in their composition of all substances vital for plants - they have very little phosphorus and other useful elements. Accordingly, coffee cannot completely replace standard fertilizers, and therefore it is recommended to use it as an excellent additional product.

You should not use a drink prepared from instant coffee for fertilizing growing crops, as well as ground coffee grains before brewing them - they are characterized by high acidity.

And, of course, when making coffee dressings, it is important to observe the measure - you do not need to pile up heaps of coffee grounds near the growing crops, since in this case a rather dense crust can form near the root system, which will become a serious obstacle to the delivery of liquid to the roots.
