Growing golden currants

Since this is a perennial shrub and has been growing in one place for almost twenty years, when planting, it is necessary to lay nutritious soil in the planting pit. The sequence of filling: put expanded clay, crushed stone or broken brick on the bottom of the pit, pour a half of a bucket of humus nutrient mixture on top, add a glass of wood ash, fertile soil, mix and plant a seedling. A spacious pit (50 * 50 * 50) will ensure good development of the root system of the shrub. The distance between the seedlings is 1.5 - 2 meters. Water the planted plant. Subsequent care of the bushes consists of mulching the soil, watering and pruning. Top dressing of the bushes is carried out in the spring and during the fruiting period, it is enough to lay high-quality humus under the mulch

In dry weather, watering is necessary twice a week (one bucket of water per bush). To prevent the bush from shedding the abundant ovary, watering must be carried out in greater quantities or more often.

The bushes are pruned in spring and autumn. When pruning, shoots, dry, broken off branches are removed, and shoots growing deep into the crown of the bush are also cut out, which thicken the plant.

Currants are propagated by annual cuttings, green shoots, dividing the bush, layering, seeds.

Planting can be done in autumn or early spring.

When grown by seed, currants will not provide guaranteed varietal traits.

Correct and timely care of plants guarantees a stable and high-quality berry harvest.
