Currant bushes can be seen in almost every country house - and there is a completely logical explanation for this: these cute berries are not only very tasty, but also incredibly healthy! And they are also an excellent remedy for combating vitamin deficiency in the winter and spring seasons. So, not a single summer resident will refuse a good harvest of currants! But sometimes the leaves on the currant bushes begin to dry, and this is a very alarming sign. Why is this happening, and how to deal with this scourge?

For what reason do the leaves dry?

The first and rather commonplace reason for the drying out of currant leaves is a lack of moisture and drought. If the weather is rather hot and there is no rain for a long time, then the currant bushes need to be regularly watered, otherwise the useful plant will simply begin to dry out. It is especially important not to forget about this when the plants are at the stage of the appearance of leaves, the formation of buds, as well as flowering or setting future fruits. In this case, watering must be carried out at the root, trying in every possible way not to touch the leaves - if you neglect this recommendation, the leaves can easily burn out in the sun.

Another very common reason for the drying out of currant leaves is the invasion of aphids - often harmful parasites stick around the leaves so densely that it becomes very difficult for them to get all the substances they need from the sun. And the harm from aphids is not limited to this: gluttonous insects gradually suck life-giving juices from the leaves, as a result of which they begin to curl, dry and turn yellow.

How to be?

If aphid attacks are the reason for the drying of the leaves, it is necessary to take the most serious measures as soon as possible, because during the summer season alone, up to six or seven generations of aphids are born, and this is a real disaster for plants!

Quite often, aphids appear in places where ants live nearby. Therefore, if anthills suddenly appear near the currant bushes, it is necessary to eliminate them without the slightest shadow of regret. Most often, minks dug by ants are simply poured - for these purposes it is better to use not ordinary water, but a special tool. And in order for the effect to be as positive as possible, the anthills should be flooded for several days.

Also, with the onset of spring, you should carefully examine all the buds on the currants - large and unnaturally swollen buds almost always indicate aphid infestation, so they must be removed as quickly as possible. And it is best to burn them - this will not allow the infection to take root in another place. Also, for preventive purposes, it will not hurt to treat the blossoming shoots with ash - you can either simply powder the currants with it, or prepare a solution from it (a glass of ash is taken for each liter of water) and spray.

But in the summer, it is most difficult to deal with gluttonous aphids, since any chemical exposure can adversely affect the fruits. So, if aphids are found at the fruiting stage, it is allowed to use exclusively herbal infusions. The infusion of wormwood is especially helpful in this difficult, but important matter - aphids hate wormwood!

And another very good, free and, most importantly, effective way to combat aphids: try to attract ladybirds to your site. As a rule, this is done by planting herbs near currant bushes that attract these useful insects: tansy, chamomile, coriander, dill or basil. And this is a really working method!

The most important thing is to try to identify in time the cause of the drying out of the leaves and timely detect aphids, if the reason lies precisely in it. In this case, it will be much easier to cope with the trouble!
