Arrowhead rezuha (Latin Arabis sagittata) - one of the plant species of the genus Rezuha (lat. Arabis), ranked in the Cabbage family (lat. Brassicaceae), which differs from numerous perennial relatives in one or two years of life. The short life of the plant, combined with the barbarism of man in relation to the plant world of our planet, put Rezukha arrowhead in some areas of natural growth (for example, in the Vologda and Vladimir regions of immense Russia) on the brink of extinction. Therefore, this plant name can be found in the Red Data Books of the regions listed above.
What's in your name
Arrowhead rezuha is rich in synonymous names. In addition to the name already mentioned, the plant is called “
Sharp sagittal"Or even"
Cracked hairy ”, When the attention of the observer is directed not to the shape of its arrow-shaped leaves, but to the dense protective pubescence, which covers practically all aerial parts of the plant.
Some botanists believe that Arrowhead Rezuha is synonymous with
Rough cuts (lat. Arabis hirsuta), also characterized by dense pubescence. Others say that Rezuha arrowhead exists as an independent species of the genus Arabis (Rezuha). Which of them is right may be shown by further genetic studies of these plant species. It is all the more difficult for an inexperienced grower to distinguish between these plants.
Description
Arrowhead rezuha does not differ in perenniality. One plant has a lifespan of one or two years. Being a herbaceous plant, Rezuha arrowhead does not aspire high to the heavens, towering above the surface of the earth from 30 to 60 centimeters.
The stem and leaves of Arrowhead Rezuha are covered with a protective branchy pubescence, making them rough to the touch, and therefore scaring away for various harmful insects. The density of pubescence can be different along the length of the stem. The leaves are divided into petiolar basal, forming a dense picturesque spread out rosette, and stem leaves, devoid of petioles, and therefore tenderly embracing the erect stem with their heart-shaped base. The shape of the leaf plate is elongated-oval with a blunt rounded end and a wavy-toothed spectacular edge that turns the leaves into a natural miracle. Young leaves of Arrowhead Rezuha are edible, used boiled.
In June-July, at the end of leafy stems, an inflorescence-raceme is born, formed by small white bisexual flowers typical of plants of the Cabbage family, with four horizontally deflected delicate petals.
Fertilized flowers in July-August turn into straight flattened pods with small narrow-winged seeds inside.
Arrowhead rezuha most often grows on dry limestone slopes along the banks of natural reservoirs, and occurs in floodplain meadows.
Living conditions
Arrowhead rezuha can grow in the open sun and in the shade.
The plant thrives in normal soil with good drainage as it thrives on dry soils and on limestone slopes.
Rezuha arrowhead propagates by sowing seeds.
The plant is quite resistant to diseases and pests, but it is only afraid of stagnant water that provokes fungal diseases.
