Licania duck (lat. Licania platypus) - the rarest fruit crop from the Chrysobalanaceae family.
Description
Plants from the genus of exclamation are low trees or shrubs. As for the jubilant duck, it is a rather rare tropical tree, endowed with thick branches, a rounded crown and dark purple or brown bark. And its height often reaches fifteen meters.
Pointed at the tips, simple duck-like glee leaves are arranged oppositely on the branches. Their width almost never exceeds two and a half centimeters, and their length can vary from five to ten centimeters. It is noteworthy that young foliage is characterized by an incredibly attractive pink color.
Small yellowish flowers of duck-like glee gather in bizarre brushes, the length of which can reach ten centimeters. And sometimes the flowers are folded into funny tri-like shields. You can admire the magnificent flowering of the duck-like glee from July to September.
Unlike other varieties of glee, the duck-shaped glee has rather large orange-white fruits, the length of which ranges from three to fifteen centimeters (for comparison, it should be noted that the length of the fruits of other types of glee rarely exceeds two to three centimeters). Moreover, they all have a very specific shape - obovate or pear-shaped. The fruit tastes quite sweet and is somewhat similar to a pumpkin, and they ripen from nine to twelve months.
Where grows
Lycania is very widespread in South and Central America - their luxurious thickets appear at lightning speed in areas of fresh felling. Panama and southern Mexico are considered to be the birthplace of the duck-like glee.
The fruits of jubilation can often be seen in local markets, but they have not yet received proper distribution around the world. And in Hawaii and the Philippines, this crop is generally grown to decorate parks, alleys and gardens.
Application
The fruits of the duck jubilant are very good fresh - their energy value is 116 kcal for every 100 g. And the seeds extracted from them are an excellent raw material for obtaining oil. As for the chemical composition of these fruits, at the moment it has not been completely studied.
Duck glee will be an excellent help for a wide variety of colds and cardiovascular ailments, as well as vitamin deficiency and serious physical exertion - it is endowed with the ability to exert a powerful immunostimulating and tonic effect on the body. These eye-pleasing fruits are very rich in thiamine, calcium, riboflavin, iron, carotene, phosphorus, as well as ascorbic and niacin.
However, despite all their benefits, these fruits are not at all held in high esteem by local residents - they believe that the use of jubilation can lead to fever or to a number of other equally dangerous diseases.
By the way, the fruits of exultation are consumed not only by people - quite often they are also grown to feed various animals, including monkeys. Its wood is also valued, from which furniture, various hydraulic structures, as well as sleepers and piles are often made.
Contraindications
Allergic manifestations and individual intolerance are not excluded when using the duck-like glee.
Growing and caring
Duck glee is extremely thermophilic - at temperatures below four to five degrees Celsius, it quickly dies. That is why it is able to grow only in the tropical zone, while it will feel best on the sunny side. In addition to warmth, exultation also needs sufficient moisture, which must be maintained throughout the year.
