Lysimachia (lat. Lysimachia) - a flowering plant that is a member of the Primroses family. The second name of the plant is loosestrife.

Description

Lysimachia is a plant characterized by an active, elongated-striving form of growth. Sometimes the stems of this beauty can take intricate curves. And their height is on average in the range from thirty to fifty centimeters, but sometimes there are specimens 100 or even 130 centimeters high!

Fancy apical spike-shaped inflorescences of lysimachia are formed by many small snow-white flowers. As a rule, the length of these slightly drooping, pointed buds ranges from twenty-five to thirty centimeters. And the flowering of lysimachia in the middle zone of Russia usually occurs at the end of summer and lasts fifteen to twenty days.

Dioscorides, when describing one of the species of this plant, named it after the king of Thrace Lizimachus - "lysimacheyos", and it is from here that the Latin name of this genus came. There is another version of the origin of the Latin name lysimachia - in accordance with this version, the plant was named in honor of the commander Alexander of Macedon by the name of Lysimachus, as previously there was an erroneous opinion that it was he who discovered this amazing plant.

In total, the genus of lysimachia includes more than a hundred species.

Under natural conditions, excellent lysimachia is found in almost all temperate regions of our planet.

Usage

Lysimachia is a very frequent guest in wedding floristry, as its snow-white inflorescences are a kind of symbol of innocence and purity. However, this beauty can not only be included in the bride's bouquets - among other things, she will be an ideal solution for a gift to young girls, personifying a sincere heartfelt affection! By the way, in the language of flowers, a sprig of lysimachia means constancy and fidelity! And, of course, lysimachia is quite capable of becoming a full-fledged basis for quite colorful bouquets!

It is best to put lysimachia in water at room temperature, after cutting off its stems. And it will be even better if you add a small amount of "Krizal" to the water - in this case, a beautiful plant will quite happily stand in a vase for at least five to seven days!

And among the people, lysimachia has been very popular since time immemorial as a very peculiar substitute for tea. The flowers and leaves of this beauty are brewed with boiling water, and you get an extremely aromatic and surprisingly pleasant drink!

Growing and caring

Lysimachia is so undemanding to light that it feels great, even when planted in the shade. At the same time, this plant will grow best and much faster on moist, fertile and rather loose soils. But on clay soils, the beauty of lysimachia will definitely not grow!

Throughout the summer season, it is important to try to constantly maintain high soil moisture, and you should not be afraid of excessive waterlogging either - lysimachia tolerates it very well!

Young specimens of lysimachia need regular and fairly abundant watering, and adult plant bushes should be watered only when heat and drought are established. As for the flowering period, at this time watering of lysimachia is not required at all, especially if it was planted near a reservoir, or even more so in the reservoir itself.

Lysimachia does not feel the need for fertilizers - it will be enough to add compost or humus to the soil during its preparation for planting plants. Moreover, in the same place, lysimachia can grow well for a whole decade!
